Commence your freakout. Might burn the mountain, might not.
I saw the large smoke plume yesterday around 5 PM in a Satellite image but figured it was so large that it must have been a cloud shield. Nope.

Spur Fire burns up about 13 buildings at mine town of Bagdad and additional outbuildings. Not on inciweb at this point, looks like the local fire folks stomped on it as quick as they could.

SB 87 closed at the moment, mm 233 ... let's hope it gets quashed quickly.

@cactuscat
one lane of 87 southbound is now open, so they must be making progress in putting the fire out

Mescal Fire looks to have probably burnt up my peak register. Hope the ranch makes it. Southern edge at the Needles Eye.

This really sucks. Viirs & Modis are showing the Telegraph fire right up on the southern edge of Picketpost; most of AZT #17 affected.

@Grimey
that does suck. Do you know how close the fire is to the Boyce Thompson Arboretum?

@Grimey From what I read, most of that was intentionally back-burned last night to reduce fuels to help protect Superior. Which doesn't mean it didn't burn, but I think the nighttime back-burns do not usually result in the moonscape that a wind-driven afternoon run of fire can.

@chumley
Hoping you are correct and the burn isn't too bad. Crummy start to the fire season either way. Here's hoping the folks who are living in the area are safe and can return soon to undamaged homes.

Parts of Miami are in "Go" status ... the rest of the area is now in "Set".

Boyce Thompson weather report is for 9 MPH tonight and 13 MPH for tomorrow.
Lets hope the Air Tankers can protect the 400 acres of the Arboretum and Superior.

Meanwhile they are backfiring along Hwy 70 as the Mescal Fire approaches. If I lived in the general area think I would have a full tank of gas and lots of food on hand. How are supplies getting to Globe?? The main roads are largely cut off now. I guess from Show Low is still open. How many semi's are gonna take that Salt Canyon route??

With the Globe/Miami area all but isolated from the Phoenix metro area, maybe this is a good time to complain to ADOT about ignoring the repairs on the Apache Trail.... just saying.

Telegraph looks like another saguaro killer. The video posted on the inciweb page shows fire moving through some of them. Tons of fine grass fuels left over from the 2020 winter.

My friend's brother is trying to get out of Globe - would like to head for Show Low, but he says there is no gas left in Globe.
