Group Hike to Rogers Canyon

Hooli and I having recently read Feldman's 'Crooked Mountain', have the itch to go see the ruins in Rogers Canyon.
http://www.hikearizona.com/decoder.php? ... s%20Canyon
We will be headed out early next Sunday, April 21st. Hooli, Linda and myself will be in his Jeep with room for one more. The road is pretty rough back in there and high clearance is recommended. I'm not sure you need four wheel drive, we'll have to await Fritzski's answer on that. We would like to have this as a HAZ group hike for anyone interested. If we take a sizeable group back there we'll have to exercise our LNT ethics a little more carefully around the ruins.
Let's go for a walk.

Don't worry Joe, I'm not checking John's private messages! (Should I be?)

It's just that when I sign on to your site, our computer automatically signs on to Fritzski. I believe I'm all registered, and from now on, I'll take the time to sign on through Cairn.
Oh, by the way... Hi John!
(I think he will be surprised to read this...)
This hike sounds like quite an event! See ya'all Sunday!

I think our friend Dave can probably get the cooler in the pickup, wasn't that Cairn's first post? I wonder when Rusty will make his debut on the forum.

No problem guys, the cooler can ride in the Jimmy with us girls (& Rusty of course), we won't touch a thing, but I'm not sure about Rusty.

BTW, for those who haven't been to Elvira's, it's cash only, no credit cards accepted.

I'm guessing we should get there about 7:45, leaving central Phoenix about 6:30. Probably be after 8:00 before we get everybody together and leave for the trail head.

Unfortunately I've got a Sunday am committment. What time do y'all expect to finish the hike and exit the Rogers Trough area???
BTW, Elvira's Sunday hours are 2-9pm.
Don't let Rusty whup up on that bear at Angel Springs...-Randy

Randy, TrailDex says 5 hours, but we'll probably go on to Angel Basin for lunch so may be longer. Figure if we get to the TH by 9:00 we'll probably finish around 3:00...give or take a week or so
Think I'll call Elvira's and just tell them to expect a dozen or so around 4:00...give or take a week or so
If you get there (Elvira's) around 4:00 and we don't show up 'til 5:00 I hope you'll leave a few Coronas for us!

Can we get directions to Elvira's one more time for the record?? I have a friend who can't go on the hike, but might meet us for dinner.
It sounds like the weather will be perfect with a high of 82 predicted. We're so lucky! I was out in this area a couple weekends ago and it was hot.
I have been reading the book and only hope that we see some water in the Canyon, probably not though. It sounds like an awesome place. Can't wait to see everyone.
Just so everyone knows

So it looks like we'll be at the trailhead around 9:00 AM
Those that want to can meet a my place or another place down the road.
I may have to park a car at the Walgreens on 60 to take back in case of lateness. Linda has to work at 4:00 AM Monday.
If we can all at least meet at Queen Valley Road by 8:00 AM, we should be OK.
So lets pull Roll Call to get a total expected.

We're going to me at Queen Vally Rd. which is approx. 2 miles past Florence Junction. Kelly says there's a space there where we can meet. Look for a burgandy colored Jeep. Time: I figure between 7:45 and 8:15. All depends on driving time.

Just read in the paper that US-60 will be closed between Mill ave. and Rural rd. this weekend, so expect a detour.
When I drove out for the Don's thing, it was also early Sunday a.m and US-60 was closed at Alma School Rd. Probably added no more than 5 minutes to the drive.

if you're coming from the northwest valley, you can take the 101 all the way around to the 60 now. It's much more scenic, too. Or, from central Phoenix, take the 202 east to the 101, and then the 101 south to the 60.

Thanks Mike, Looks like 202 to 101 south to 60 is the way to go.
