Does anyone have a good resource (preferably a book) of plants that are edible here in AZ, and poosibly some ways to use in camp/ backpack cooking?

The ones in Australia are called witchity grub (sp). The aborigal people eat them both raw and cooked. Some say they taste like scrambled eggs...

How did you know? That is exactly the first thing they do with the kids at my son's job I mentioned earlier. (Somehow I doubt if anyone has ever brained a rabbit with one, though.) My son also has made a super-nifty set of bow and arrows, with arrowheads he knapped himself. Last I talked to him he hadn't killed anything with them, yet. He even made the bowstring. Not sure how he did that. Bear grass strands, maybe??

You're talking about Anasazi I'm assuming. I dated a gal who did that during her college summers. She talked about some pretty weird stuff they do out there...
