Attention all those on HikeArizona who believe themselves to be crazy, there will be a summiting of Humphrey's Peak on the weekend of the 23rd-24th. We'll be going up the night before to spend the night to help give us all day to climb and enjoy the views, taking the Weatherford trail up. Expect snow, veery cold weather and lots of pain the next day. Now it's time to man up, who all is game?

The snow is supposed to be done by morning. You will have lots of fresh snow on the Peaks and will likely be cutting new trail, but it shouldn't be snowing on you. If you start at the Agassiz lodge and head into the woods on the normal trail you will encounter the sign-in box just in front of the sign for the wilderness area (past the ski runs). If you go, I recommend cutting trail along the contour that the trail follows, and head slightly up hill towards the north east as you proceed past the first gully. That route will take you to the Dutchman glade(the large natural ski area with about 800' of elevation gain). Follow that up hill and to the treeline. Its all pretty self explanatory from that point on. Post a report if you go. Above treeline-stick to the rock and you won't have to worry about avalanches or any danger like that.
Beyond the first stretch of trail I don't recommend attempting to follow the route of the Humphrey Trail. Its impossible with the 6 to 9 feet of snow that is currently on the trail and it will be dangerous to cross in the saddle. You might want to check the Arizona Snowbowl site to see their snow report for tomorrow. Its usually posted by 6am. Today they have 60 to 102 inches of snow on the mountain at 9500' and 10800'. They are forecast to pick up about another 12 to 15 inches between tonight and tomorrow. Enjoy, I'm going to lower elevation this weekend. It was fun last Sunday.
