While hiking at night, I have observed the rhino beetles are out and about around sunup and the moths are also quite busy as well. If the cicada's start singing the monsoons should make their apearance.

@Daryl You've expressed my very thoughts.
Gonna be a dry year in Arizona, the Monsoons notwithstanding.

Native Americans are harvesting acorns in Northern Gila County, wonder if the cicadas are singing out on the desert. Usually means monsoon season will arrive soon.

Already? We didn't finish strawberries all that long ago and the raspberries are just coming in. Our acorns are a couple months off yet.

Yeah, it is early for acorn ripening. Usually August is about as early as I recall.
Cicadas are loud, now, though.

We have early acorn years once in a while, usually in drought. It's as if the trees panic and try to get the seeds out quick before they die. This was a very late strawberry year (about two weeks). I don't think it will be much of an acorn year for us.

Cicada's are singing in the Payson area, not sure if they are looking for a mate or serenading the Native Americans harvesting acorns. Quite cloudy in the early afternoon. Going to miss driving up Mount Ord for the storms.

They're singing - and providing a feast to the birds - in Southeast AZ.

Been raining the past several days in the Payson area. Thinking about sending a video to the forest supervisor to get the North half of the Tonto open.

The closure order expires July 31, I heard it will not likely be extended.

Nice little rain shower last night after midnight to about 3:30 am, postponed the hike and enjoyed the light rainfall.
