The 2023?!?! Cyclical totals discussion thread.

How are things progressing this year? In keeping with the idea that you are only as good as the numbers you post, I'm up to 61,436' of elevation for the year and a modest 132 miles.
Added August 2019: Looking back 10 years later, I honestly can't think of anything more offensive or unhealthy to say about one's hiking, than the above statement. Thats was my OP in 2009. Hiking should never just be about the stats recorded.

January 31, 2023: Have at it.

Only been in once, 10 miles or so I guess, probably 1,000' elevation change. Been a short year so far.

I wish spring wasn't so windy in Flag so I could be more motivated to climb Elden

That goes double for me, regardless of any outdoor activities.

I'm back from a two month visit over in Texas... doing all flat land and low mileage. I'm into my second week getting back on track (...and trying to burn off the weight from all that Texas eating)... and it is motivating to be clocking up some numbers again on the board. I do love being back in the mountains again. Just got a permit for Whitney in September so the training is about that and an upgraded goal of doing a Quad over on Finger Rock trail in the fall... time will tell if age will allow.

first month back on the trails has gone well... moved elevation to 108,000' today... looks like I'll hit 18,000' this first week in May, and I hope to hold near that pace for a few months as I try to get back into shape. They are probably about to close the forest due to fire danger, so the next month may present some interesting challenges. I'd hate to lose these nice training trails. Oh, well.

Yeah, you're definetly holding the lead for the year and are on track to go past 200,000 feet. Do you think you'll make 250,000' this year? Had I been successful on my December Whitney Climb I would have gotten in 250,000' vertical feet in 2008, but we had to turn back due to the snow conditions. My lifestyle appears to be shifting away from free time for the next 20 months, so I will be happy if I get past 150,000'.

This is an odd year for me... being my 60th year, I've set up goals to see just what condition I might be able to get into... and it includes hitting over 60,000' per month for the next five months, maybe more. No telling what may really happen, but that is the plan at the moment.

With 165,378', imike is definitely in the lead this year. My official total elevation last year was 245,469', and there was almost 70,000' between me and the next closest hiker. I hope to break 150,000' this year, but won't be doing much more than that if I can get there. With Mike's current numbers, he looks to be on track to break 300,000' this year. We should start a pool to see who can guess the closest date that he breaks 300,000'.

yeah... hard to call. I was getting too far ahead on elevation conditioning... too much too soon since all my events are in the fall, so I've switched over to trial running and mountain biking for two months, planning to hit it hard again beginning in August. I'm only out the door for three or four long/steep hikes each month in June and July. I am not aware of the normal totals for past years in this forum... sounds like this is alot?

If you check your history there should be a link at the bottom of the page to see the yearly summaries for the members.

Hey, mountain biking shouldn't count towards the 'Annual triplog analysis'. ROFL, I was trying to figure out why I'm only barely above Randal now that I'm hiking up to par again and then I realize it's because off all his biking miles...

Suprisingly I'm at 460 miles so far even after a weak April & May. I really wasn't trying for it this year, esp with the shin injury, but at this pace I should keep on trucking and hit another 1000 mile year. :D

its interesting to me that i'm in 22nd place for mileage this year, but holding third place for average miles per trip. and ive been doing light trips! many of the hikes i do make me feel like im cheating myself (3 miles, r/t? lame!)
