taking the Pumkin trail/Bull Basin Loop to the top of Kendrick, camp at the nice spot near the cabin. Following PBaenzig's GPS route we can go counter-clockwise on Pumkin trail and return via Bull Basin Trail back to the vehicles. Roughly 12 miles total.

high 70's - high 40's

*you must pack in all the water you will need, none can be found along the way

I am going to make the drive up on Friday evening to car camp at the intersection of fr's 245 and 171.
This is a 3 hr. drive from the valley. Remember, this trip will include a camp at 10,200 feet - please be prepared and/or experienced hiking at such altitude. also, there can be a threat of lightning and foul weather (rain) during late summer months

btw, the fire tower is manned and visitors are welcome. the guy up top has been manning this tower for some 21 years. he has a load of great stories to tell, so spend some time up there!

for those who wish to meet in the e. valley for a carpool, let me know and we can arrange such things. im also leaning towards driving back to e. valley using the scenic hiway #3 (lake mary road) and then on to the Beeline hiway to stop for a late lunch at the Rimside Grille in Pine.

Should I just meet you guys at the trailhead or you want to meet up somewhere in Flag? We could get some pre hike subs like last time! MMmm.

I'm 'in' for sure.
I'm heading up on Friday about noon from Tempe & will camp Friday evening just east of the SEC of FR171 & FR245. I can transport up to 3 riders.
My route is: I-10N from S. Tempe - I-17N - I-40W - FR 171N.
If you need a ride, contact me.
Te-Wa, please alert me to the ETD from the T-H Sat. AM.

I switched to interested... mostly because I have 3 days off that weekend and I am considering a Tonto-boucher-hermit loop in the canyon.

Mike (aka Te-Wa the Mighty Squirrel);

I can commit now to the over-nighter on Kendrick Peak. What's up in the air is my departure from Ahwatukee (Friday evening vs. early Saturday morning). Presume you are setting up camp near the old cabin http://hikearizona.com/phoZOOM.php?ZIP=66209 (please confirm...) Plan to meet up with the crew Saturday at the planned campsite on Kendrick :D Peak!

PS. Can I plan on bartering the use of someone's Giga-Stove in exchange for a can of Guinness???

ok, some of us are driving up on Saturday. Denny, Bob - you may ask them if carpooling is going to help. We'll see you guys either at the trailhead or on top near the cabin. I can help you with that Guiness..

Amazing! Squirrel takes a sip of Guinness, sets it down and it magically refills itself. Gotta get one of those glasses... :sl:

Looks like I can make this one as I'm between jobs now. With the Valley temps forecast in the mid hundred and teens it will certainly be welcome :)
If anybody can spare a poor out of work webmaster a ride lemme know :D

big group - we will have to camp spread out a little but there should be room for all of us around the fire ;)

im hoping every duck will be in a row around 9am at the trailhead, no reason to start early (drivers coming from Phx) and its a short 5 miles - otherwise we'll see you guys at the top.

oh yeah, Joe's right - forecast for 113° in Phx this weekend

remember to bring enough water for 2 days
