ADOT Litter Hotline

This won't help the trails much but...

ADOT implemented a Hotline for reporting those that litter

If you see somebody littering from a car, jot down their license plate number and the location. Then call it in.
602-712-4683 or
1-877-354-8837

I'm sure most saw this on the news today. But figured some may not have had paper and pencil handy. Not a bad number for the cell phone memory.

Man a $95 (misdemeanor) for lack of liter bag in vehicle.

I can hear it now, "son, do you have any open containers in the vehicle, oh ya, how about a trash receptical"

Did you see how many warnings the cops gave? It seems to me that figure could stand to be a little lower and the actual tickets should be higher. In all I was surprised at how low the numbers were. I guess it's harder to catch someone littering, than speeding or running a red.

Remember Arlo Guthrie's "Alice's Restaurant"?

I'm willing to try anything. We were coming home Sunday from Sedona. I noticed that Sherriff's Joe's gang must of have been out there working between New River and Deer Valley along the 17. I bet there was a filled garbage bag every 10 feet. I couldn't believe the amount of trash. It reminded me of the late 60's and 70's anti-littering campaign. Remember the Indian with the tear rolling down his cheek.

It really bugs me when I'm out hiking in some beautiful quiet spot, not a soul around and you look down at a cigarette butt. Yuck! Worse yet when I'm scuba diving and see beer cans on the bottom. Its like you just can't escape from the chaos when there are rude reminders left behind.

I guess I'll have to be a tattle tail. I'm willing to give a shot.

Great topic. Before I clicked on it I thought it might be related to the Trail Fairies thread. Now I see it's a "litter" hotline rather than "liter". I'd like to see the laws enforced also but I don't want to hire enough cops so they can watch everybody to see when someone tosses out a cigarette butt or empty coke cup. It will take public involvement. Maybe the cops can still use this program. Say Marcus Mullethead has gotten 50 letters from this program. It might payoff to follow him for a day since he's a habitual offender. Someone who gets one or two letters is probably not much of a problem.

Cakewalk; isn't that an oxymoron? Hiking and cigarettes? I remember the first time I went to Squaw Peak about 7 years ago. I had my oldest daughter who was a smoker at the time with me. We got about 3/4 of the way up and she couldn't go any farther. I went to the top and when I came down she was in the same place I had left her, smoking a cigarette! Go figure! 8O
