Little 4 Peaks Grandmother load and cleanup

The four peaks mother load has become a signature hike for HAZ. This event is a
scaled version that is closer, shorter and less difficult but still claiming four peaks in one day!

This will be a short hike combined with a bit of trail cleaning. The plan is to meet at the parking place on AZ88 at MP 205.2 ( N33.512846 W111.454024 ) at 9 am on Saturday 1/30. From 9 to 10, we will pick up trash at the ad-hoc gun range about 1/4 mile up the trail (N33.513562 W 111.45705) and then proceed up to the peaks area. The summit log is on a 5th peak which is along the way. We than go to the 4 little peaks and make the short climbs up them to complete the grandmother load. We will collect the bagged trash and haul it to the parking place on the return.
Please bring some work gloves, water and lunch. Trash bags will be available and I am working with the forest service on some details about how and where to dump them.
Although this is the "grandmother load", there is no trail and it takes about 1 mile of light bushwhacking, there is about 900 feet of gain and there is some scrambling to actually summit all 4 peaks.

Sorry to miss this, I'm usually a sucker for a do-good thing, but already had plans.

Thanks for considering it. It is a busy time of year with lots to choose from.

Maybe it will work for you next time

The hike description needs revision to reflect the absence of the gun range - Thanks to my fellow cleaners/hikers/climbers who dilligently filled m little truck with trash hauled out the trail. :worthy: :wlift:

We also have an official Grandmother load completer as Tibber made it to the top of all 4 peaks plus the summit peak. : rambo :

Wrapped up with a nice beer/burger at Tortill flats.

:thanx: John for putting this together. It was a little easier than that ole "catclaw revenge" event last year... but then again that project was overwhelming for just 6 or so of us.

The trail or actually the road you walk to access the LFP, is a lot cleaner now. We could have put together a partial living room and entertainment center with some of the stuff we collected. As for the brass casings from the amunition, we just made a dent but a lot of the bigger casings and residuals, including targets, from shooting rifles has been packed out.

John, Jim, Linda and I only spent an hour but got a lot accomplished in that short time before taking off on our quest of the Grandmother Lode. Then after the non-trail hiking/climbing was all done, we had to haul our collection of stuff to John's pick-up. We drove it to the dumpster at Canyon Lake (John got permission) and then went to eat at the infamous restauarant at Tortilla Flats. First time I had eaten there. It was very good and of course, I had to belly up to the bar to try out those awesome bar stools.

It was like a war zone out there. I must have picked up a thousand .22 and a few hundred 7.62mm casings.
Great to finally meet Beckett and Tibber the photo goddess

Kat got me started in the Supes about this time last year. There's just nothing like them. So alluring, so interesting, so photogenic :D .

Agree about the war zone. There are still lots of little casings. You could probably sit yourself down and pick up 100 casings in the area just around you.

It was nice to meet you as well as it's always nice to meet a fellow HAZer in person. I presume the "goddess" refers to the amount of pictures I take and the constant request for you all to stop and smile in mid-step/climb? I do think I prefer "photo goddess over tibber mode but either works :sl: .

This was a wonderful event. Thank you John for putting it together. It's so important that all of us who love nature give back. The clean up was quite impressive. So glad we filled your truck! Loved the hike...lunch was delicious...ice cream was super...company the best!

Maybe we can get a cleanup/trail-maintenance event this summer up on top of the Pinals
