Friday 1/6/12

I went for a run at Bell Pass trying to set a personal best. I was a couple minutes off but I still felt good about it. Later in the day, I went for a hike with my daughter and my dog Bruno. What a great start to the day...that night we had dinner plans and had a great dinner until we got "the call". My son was hit by a car and the great day and evening changed in a second. He is lucky to still be with us and his road to recovery will be long....I will soon begin to count my miles again while I will be counting my sons' steps when he is able to walk again. I look forward to the day that I will be counting his miles. His spirits are high and he has talked about wanting to climb down Mooney Falls again in the future.

RJ went to the Dr. this Friday and he had his staples in his leg and shoulder removed. They removed his leg immobilizer and he now has a brace but still can't bear any weight for 2 more months. The x-rays show him healing fast and ahead of schedule. He is also ahead of schedule for his release from the rehab place and looks forward to coming home on Wednesday. He is working hard and every day he is getting stronger.
Thanks again everybody for all the positive vibes sent our way.

That is such great news Bob! I'm sure it's going to be a big relief to have him home. Just goes to show what hard work and support can do in such a short time! Pretty soon, you'll be having to hold him back just to allow time for the healing process to be complete....Best wishes to you, RJ, and the rest of the family.

RJ has been home for a few days now and is doing well :wlift: ....Bruno is having a hard time leaving him alone though

. And of course, I am making him do all the things that he doesn't like....but will help him. Being the bad guy is my job and I take it seriously ;)

Glad to hear progress is being made! and as to the "bad guy", you're just living up to your moniker "BAB" ;) . Good luck with all that. I'm sure it can't be easy for or on anyone.

So glad to hear he's home and doing well. And he will do much better if someone plays the "bad guy" and pushes him. Good for you Bob. Just don't come home from your "hike" and tell us that you pushed that poor guy up Picketpost....
Here's hoping things keep getting brighter and brighter....

On Friday, RJ got rid of his sling, brace, and boot.

He will hopefully be out of the wheelchair in about 6 weeks.

That's great news Bob. I was just talking to a fellow HAZer last night wondering how he was doing.

2 months since the accident....and RJ is getting along pretty well. He is able to do a lot of things by himself now. He has close to full range of motion in both shoulders and his elbow is now "unlocked". Four more weeks in the wheelchair and then he'll be able to put weight on his right side and if all goes well he'll be walking a week later. Its amazing how the body can recover with the aid of rods, plates, and screws. The kid hasn't had a pain killer or even tylenol in about 2 weeks. :wlift: Just wanted to update his progress and thank everyone again for their thoughts and prayers.

The doctor let RJ bear weight on his surgically repaired leg for the first time in 3 months. He took a few steps on his own to have x-rays taken. He said he felt good and was looking forward to getting out of the wheelchair for good. He'll use a walker for the next few days until his balance is better and hopefully he'll get rid of that quickly.
Again I want to thank all who kept and keep RJ in your thoughts and prayers...its really appreciated.
