Those SCA folks stop using soap and deodorant a month in advance to help get into character.

60 between Superior and Miami is going to be closed until Friday. Per ADOT after blasting on Tuesday 2.4 there is unstable rock that needs to be removed which is causing the extended closure.

What a pain! We hit a similar closure coming back from NM at Thanksgiving. The detour should have been an hour and half, but it was well over two hours due to slow people and trucks.

And the northern work-around (SR 260) has two 1.5 mile sections of 'follow pilot cars' M-F. Coordinated......but in a bad way.

Friday, 2/7 @ 3PM --- A section of US 60 between Superior and Miami, east of the metropolitan Phoenix area, remains closed while crews work around the clock to address falling rocks and reopen the highway as soon as possible. There is no estimated time for reopening the highway.

My wife and I drove to the Gila Valley the morning of 2/7. I've driven the Kearny/Winkelman route three times too many, and didn't want to repeat it yet again. So we drove up the Beeline Hwy - Mesa to Hwy 87 to Hwy 188 to Globe. Very nice. All of the 87 is four lanes, and the 188 is an easy two lane road. Lots of campgrounds and marinas along the way for bio-breaks.
When it was time to come home, we were planning on following the same route back, but were told that "the pass was open", so we took that "regular route".
Be warned! From the bridge to the tunnel - the road is VERY rough. The 25 mph speed limit signs should be taken as mandatory - not a mere suggestion!
