butter/margerine on the trail?

So I've been looking at noodles and stuff to cook on over-nighters. Lipton makes these 5-minute noodle packets but they require a tablespoon of butter or margerine. How does it hold up while hiking on the trail? Or maybe, is there some substitute I can use that isn't temp. sensitive?

In response to scottmackey's reply: Butter will hold up fine for a week or more. However, a small squeeze bottle of olive oil will work just as well. This may not be essential for flavor, but the fat is good fuel for hiking.

In response to tinyelvis' reply:
Now, finding out if a product has hydrogen in it should be the fun part...
Isn't that what HYDROGENated vegtable/soybean/canola/etc oil is? :-) To keep it firm/solid. I've never seen hydrogenated butter though... maybe because the cream is already pretty solid.

I have used olive oil on extended hikes and they work quite well except sometimes they get away. Clarified butter -Ghee works well too -- Added Bonus on cold hikes -- it freezes solid adn is quite easy to handle. Personally I like olive oil

I have always just added a pinch of dried milk to make it creamier. You can do without it. I want to try olive oil next time.

My wife read the post and thought I was a genius for using the lipton soups. You know what they say about Necessity!

I use powdered butter. You can't use it for sauteeing your mushrooms :) but it is great for adding flavor, fat and calories to a soup or noodles dish.

http://www.wildernessdining.com great for the lightweight add-ons to a supermarket menu. great hiking condiments.

a little itty bitty squeeze bottle of olive oil
Then again that's what I use at home, so guess that doesn't help much for those that don't.

most sub shops carry olive oil in packets. Subway has it, but its a canola/olive oil blend. Or KFC.

REI sales small polyurethene bottles that are perfect for olive oil or margarine.

I like to bring Squeeze Parkay in a small bottle (just the amount I'll use). I've also used ghee, which is butter with the solids removed so it doesn't spoil. It has a rich butter flavor similar to popcorn butter and can be found in ethic markets, especially wherever India foods are sold.

Lucky :)

Go to KFC, and get their little prepackaged butter packs. Same size, etc. as ketchup and mustard packs. That way you don't have to carry a pound of squeeze butter, or worry about trying to get the taste right (if that's a concern). The trash obviously packs down small too. You might have to buy some food in order to get some butter (unless they leave it out at yours), but they've got a 99 cent menu, I think, so it shouldn't cost too much...
