I was surprised that this wasn't posted already. Maybe a HAZer can be the lucky one to find it.

I just realized that the guy who buried the "treasure" is the infamous Forrest Fenn, antiquities dealer with a less than stellar reputation.

So then, is this just a ruse on his part for someone to find something he suspects is out there but that he cannot find it himself? :M2C:

According to Forrest Fenn, his treasure has been found by someone from Europe. Of course, that's if you believe Fenn.

Craig Childs wrote on social media today that Fenn let him see the treasure before he hid it. But when I asked Childs if he thought Fenn may have simply gone and retrieved it himself, he told me that it wouldn't surprise him. He says Fenn has a bit of the "sneak" in him.

So, you may want to be skeptical of all the news reports.

Gee Liz, you are rapidly turning into one of my favorite conspiracy theorists.

Haha! But you do know I generally loathe such things. It's just that, from all I've heard of this character, I wouldn't put it past him.

I keep saying that one of these days I am going to bury some silver coins out in either the Mazzies or the Sierra Ancha -- it won't be a "treasure" but it would still be worth finding. I just have to figure out a good enough hiding place that @Grasshopper or @Oregon_Hiker won't stumble upon it...lol

One article I read said that there are at least 3 different lawsuits against him, including somebody from Prescott. So perhaps the courts will force some revelations in the "discovery" process of the lawsuits. But if it's all just BS, I truly admire the man for his ability to trigger so many people and keep his world-class trolling going for so long!

I have met the man and know him through the Historic Native American Art field I used to be involved in. He always seemed a bit "sketchy" to me. Just a feeling, nothing more than that. Interesting to note that he was one of many people arrested in an FBI sting years back for buying and selling sensitive cultural material. At least two of his fellow conspirators committed suicide over the incident.

And four people died looking for the "treasure" ... if it exists, most of the items need to be returned to the various places/people they were stolen from.
He's way worse the Mary Colter in my view. 🤣

What's interesting is they won't say where it was found. I could understand not saying who found it (secret millionaire and all, possibly evading taxes?) but not saying where it was found seems suspicious.

Hey everyone, someone found the lost dutchman's gold. We won't say who, we won't say where, but trust us, it was there, and it was found....is that really news?

Yep, we had only that guy's statements that he'd hidden the treasure, and now we have only his statement that it was found.

@nonot @azbackpackr Don't remember which news I was watching, might have been CNN, but they stated that it was found in the Rocky Mountain Wilderness. Is that specific enough? :?

Craig Childs isn't above a bit of stretching, too, but I agree there's room for skepticism here.

Jeez Greg we all know that Native art dealers are marginally above gun dealers in the social spectrum.
Myself I won't waste my time on some treasure chest, or Dutchman gold. The future lies in a duffel bag of drug money.
