Quirks ( not a HAZ Tracks issue )
- Nexus w/Jellybean off line maps do not work, consider upgrading to 4.4 or higher
- Moto X not working? try "Device only" rather than "High accuracy"
- Android 4.1.1 map freezes, upgrade your device to 4.1.2 or higher
The iOS ( iPhone ) version of 1.7.8 is not working. Unfortunately it'll take a 1-2 weeks minimum to get it fixed and through the iTunes approval system.

It was like finding a needle in a haystack on the moon but Hikebot has come through once again!
1.7.9 fixes a missing file in 1.7.8 ( should be available on or before Aug 9th )
...apologies to the iOS users on HAZ Tracks

- increased route storage from 4 to 50
- added 2 levels deeper zoom to satellite
The app worked well in Oregon/Washington. Saved a few new tracks up there and it was nice to see the AEG etc. Galaxy S3 battery lasted great in airplane mode with GPS on.
Thanks for the increase on the storage!

This is one of the times I really hate auto update...

The app's off to a good start Joe, but (you knew that was coming);
1. I would like to get from HAZ Tracks to the camera without pausing and closing the app to get to the camera function. Time is lost and the shot is missed..... any thoughts?
2. I exported Coon Lake "Hood" to Route MGR but was unable to locate it on the HAZ site.

1) HAZ Tracks to Camera ( Android )
- sure way is to hit the home button then select camera, HAZ Tracks runs in the background
- may vary by model, I can hit the power button then when I hit it again I have the option to unlock screen or go directly to camera
In the future posting directly from HAZ Tracks will be an option!

Thanks for the quick response Joe, I'll check that out on my next outing. BTW, the new phone is the Galaxy 4s. Easy to view the screen in sunlight.

Doh! Tried using the app for the first time today and figured there's something on the forum I probably didn't read. Look forward to the update. Still amazed at all this website offers thanks to you and all your friends.

Should be out by late Friday as the update was submitted last Thursday. iTunes typically takes 4-8 days to update. The HAZ Dev Team tried contacting iTumes directly to resolve the boo boo quicker without luck.
For reference Google Play takes 1-6 hours & offers developers the option to stop and restart distribution.

While I have read that Tim Cook actually enjoys hiking quite a bit, I generally doubt that he trolls the HAZ forum in his free time, so the subtle jab has likely fallen on deaf ears. :-({|=

The missing file was cached on your device.

Version 1.7.9 doesn't like me, either. iPhone 5s. Gets stuck in the GPS starting mode. All my other GPS app (AllTrails, TopoMaps+) working. Sorry

Version 1.7.9 on my iPhone 5S appears to work very well, except for 'calculating profile data'.
The info "1-2 seconds per thousand points" appears in the info window, and that's as far as the profile calculation gets.
The HAZ track App does not freeze, however. By hitting the profile choice again, you can back out of the request.
Bottom line = no profile data chart appears.
Other than that, the App works very, very well. - Thanks for all your hard work on this - Much appreciated.

Thanks for the heads up, there is a bug in the profile on iOS
I'll get it fixed in the next release. In the mean time to get rid of the info window ( if profile is selected ) swipe the header left-to-right to get out of the page. Then you can go back into the page.

1.8.2 went live on Google Play around 1pm today
Which is an attempt to address an issue Mark mentioned of the app crashing. On a recent 18 mile hike I experienced 3 device reboots for no apparent reason. It was pretty much one right after another 12 miles into the hike. I think it is related to the offline maps as I never experienced anything like it previous. Not sure if 1.8.2 will cure it but there are a few other minor tweaks in update. I only tested it driving today without issue.
Minor Android
- backgrounding HAZ Tracks & starting other apps will stop HAZ Tracks
Major iOS ( according to CHUMS/9L )
- stops recording in background mode or sleep ( screen off ) edit: appears to have been a simple setting, keep reading After several small tests I couldn't duplicate it so I'll try more tests soon.

iOS Update
CHUMS tried several iOS tests and it's definitely NOT recording on 1.8.1 unless you are viewing HAZ Tracks ( not backgrounded or in sleep mode ). edit: appears to have been a simple setting, keep reading
On the same token I tested 1.8.2 this morning backgrounded, in sleep mode, taking photos over & over. It kept recording turns and seemed fine.
When iTunes releases 1.8.2 next Fri or Sat we'll see if it works for all.
Sorry for the hassle.

Is anyone else with the iOS version experiencing no recording in background mode?
( that would be screen off, backgrounded or using another app )
If so is it a recent thing or has it never worked?
For the life of me I can not get it to NOT work. I even uninstalled my newer development 1.8.2 version and installed the current release 1.8.1. Still works.
The following should be enabled ( by default )
Settings > Privacy > Location Services > HAZ Tracks > On
Settings > General > Background App Refresh > HAZ Tracks > On ← this appears to have been the issue

@joe bartels
Doh!!!
My background app refresh was turned off from when I was in Europe and was trying to cut down on roaming charges.
My bad.
(For the record... Some other apps have a popup warning that reminds me I need to turn it on if I want it to work in the background)
