I am looking for a partner or two for a thru hike of the Arizona Train this Spring, 2015. Haven't decided whether to go southbound or northbound. Anyone interested? I am from Vermont, have thru hiked the Colorado Trail, Long Trail, JMT and climbed various mountains. I am just beginning to plan this trip and recently ordered the guidebook. If interested, please respond. Janet

@justgrif
I can't handle the heat that late. I want as much cold weather as I can get.

I live in the east valley and hike the Superstitions year round. Temps will not be close to 100 degrees in April. Temps start climbing to triple digits around 2nd or 3rd week of May. and even then it's hoovers in high 90"s.
By that time we'll be in the area of Payson.
Thanks for your concern though.

@Bob Lacourse FWIW, it was 100 degrees around the Valley for a few days in mid-March back in 2006. Statistical first 100 degree day is around the start of May, give or take a week. Shawn was right though. A late April START - if that's where the thread was trending - would get you into the low desert between Tucson and Phoenix well into May.

Hi Nunki and Gogogladys and Bob,
I'm planning a hike starting April 2 (I fly into Tucson on April 1) and was wondering if you all had start dates set yet? If so, how are you getting to the southern terminus to start your hike? I'd love to coordinate with you all and share a shuttle or pay you for a seat in your car--something to spread the cost around? I'm not sure what you're all planning for pace, but I was planning on hiking alone as I'll hopefully be completing the trail in about 28 days at 30mi/day so I can make it to LA in time for my 5-year reunion! If any of y'all are intending to push the pace, a hiking partner is always welcome!
My initial plan was to hitch since it's only 90 miles from Tucson but I'd rather not potentially lose a day of hiking if it takes a while to get rides. Thanks, hopefully see you out on the trail!

A man named Ken Morrow shuttles hikers from as far as Tucson. He lives in Patagonia. We paid $100 from there to the beginning of the trail. 520-604-6939. He charges by the carload, so team up with someone if possible. He is a great guy.
We started March 7 and left the trail near Tucson due to the heat. I will try and finish next season.

Flying into Tucson on April 8 and hoping to be on trail by the 9th or 10th. Open to sharing cost of shuttle service (Arizona Sunshine Tours). Thanks!

I went out for 2 weeks, then got too hot. I made it to Tucson. Hope to continue it in late fall, when it is cooler.

My name is Johnny O I am planning a thru hike in mid March. Would like to hike 12 - 15 miles per day starting out. If anyone is interested in hiking with me let me know. We would have to see how our paces line up to determine if we are going to be able to stick with one another. I've never been in a dry environment, I'm from Appalachia, so I am somewhat concerned. I'm also debating as to whether I should get a Spot GPS locator device. Have hiked 600 miles of the Appalachian Trail in the last two years.
