Hi All,

I'm finally gonna get a digital camera, :D :D but not quite sure what kind yet. Can anyone recommend a good hiking/backpacking digital camera that can take the trail and is 3 megapixels? Also I will want to boost the memory up quite a bit.

Thanks in Advance!

Paul

@Widowmaker There are Android apps with the capability you're looking for. They're not created equal, and I haven't surveyed them in enough depth to recommend one, but I think what you're looking for is out there. (The only one I have any experience with AlpineQuest, and I've only used the most basic features).

Anything that outputs gps coordinates in less than 30 seconds is either caching the PN code timing from an earlier GPS lock, or is always maintaining lock, just not tagging your photos when you turn it "off". GPS receivers "cold start" times are longer because they refer to the average time it takes to lock when you turn it on and the cached PN code timing data is no longer valid for the current signals it is receiving.

I'M SO EXCITED!!! :GB: I've finally bought a KILLER CAMERA! I bought the Nikon P610 :D I was just wandering if anyone has used this camera and if so, how did (or do) you like it? I was also curious if anyone has used the UV and polarize filter that can be used with this camera and what do you think of them? :y: Sorry to say it... But..."Watch out! Here come more bird pics"

It's similar to the one I use except it has a few more Features and of course, more Zoom.... :D I think you already know how I feel about mine. As far as the Filters go, the Polarizer will come in Handy at Times. Cutting Glare on Water and Fall Colors and making your Sky Bluer, but for the Sky Shots especially, you have to be careful where the Sun is in relation to you or you'll get two different Colored Skies.... UV Filters really aren't used anymore except as Protection for Lenses. I haven't heard of anyone slapping on a UV Filter to actually use it as a Filter anymore. That seemed to be more Important with Film Cameras...
My Best Advice is to actually Read the Manual and learn that Camera inside and out and what all it can do for you. Have Fun! :D

@BradshawsI love mine. It is light and nice zoom. But at extreme zoom, there is lot of noise. Have to hold breath when I take a picture and still manage to only get legs or head...lol. Enjoy.

I bought a Canon Power Shot ELPH 350 HS last night. Seems impressive over my old Power Shot A 550, but 9 years later it ought to be. Get ready for the same image, but slightly different, to be posted over, and over, and over, but with more pixels!

3 MP camera..things have certainly changed a lot since 2002. :D

I use a SonyA6000. I'd say it's pretty good to take out on the trails. Lighweight slim profile, i use the stock lens. It's clipped to my backpack so no extra bags needed or taking the camera in and out of the bag for a quick snap.
