What are your views on naturists/nudists? Has anyone come upon a naked hiker/camper and what was the outcome ?

I thought Slide Rock the water part is owned by the Coconino National Forest Service. The parking lot and apple plantation is owned by state parks.

I think its absolutely fine. Ive done it myself but the most important thing is that when you can spot others coming towards you off in the distance, its best to don some shorts or something, especially when children are involved. Most au naturel hikers though usually seek out more secluded areas of this great state to prevent that from happening. There are no laws or regulation when hiking nude on Federal Lands, ie, National Forests or BLM Land but the rangers to recommend what I shared at the beginning of this. There is nothing more ethereal and free than hiking as hiking naturally in mother nature. Try it sometime, you just might like it.

To come to understand why anybody would want to hike or camp naked in the woods, here is a good read on why there is such a fascination with this by so many. If you only knew how many do! Every hiking adult should read this and open your mind. The mind is like a parachute; it doesnt work unless its opened.

Wow, it's back! This may not be the most popular thread on HAZ, but is one of the most. Well, I don't have a problem with that either, but I don't do it. I just don't get all pissy if other people do it. I used to like nude beaches and swimming holes when I was young.

There are too many people in the world who either have sick and perverted ideas about nudity, or are embarrassed by it, so I would rather go clothed and avoid controversy.

Ah, the implications!

Now that I think back...Look at my old post about the three nudists I've run into in the wild, recently. I think the guy in the July afternoon heat on Esperero with the ivy tattooed all over his body had a dog with him. Once again, on a trail where dogs are forbidden!!

I've seen a couple of people out who would have been better off nude in the last couple of weeks, as well. One guy was wearing what looked like bike shorts and a lumbar pack. The whole front portion of his shorts and the pack strap were hidden below a super-massive gut roll. This was out at Saguaro West this weekend.

A couple of weeks back on Pima there was a girl out trolling for dates in a hemp bikini. She had to stop every four or five feet to adjust the thong portion as it seemed to creep up higher as she walked. You should have seen the chafing it was causing, too! I was glad to pass her and her group as the stench of patchouli was about to make me wretch...

I was just looking at the Forest Orders related to the camping closure along Beaver Creek, and discovered this one enacted in 2003. Apparently being nude along portions of West Clear Creek, Clear Creek, and Beaver Creek is specifically prohibited. I'm not sure if there are other areas on Arizona's forest lands that have similar specific prohibitions.

That PDF is interesting...you can conceivably get a "nude permit"??

In theory, yes. In practice, not so much.

It seems all forest orders leave that little exception rule in there. I believe it allows for a special situation override without having to go through the process of rescinding a forest order.

Its not really applicable in the case of being nude by the creek, but things like the forest order preventing motor vehicle use in the inner basin to protect the Flagstaff watershed. That road is not part of the wilderness, but it is closed due to forest order. There are times however that they need to permit vehicular access to the water company, etc.

In certain parts of Mesa one will be forced to register as a Sex Offender if caught nude in the Salt, etc...

I don't think I would mind unless I was hiking behind someone who kept bending over to pick things up. Lol
