Coronavirus and hiking

Now that we are living in the era of "social distancing", it shouldn't be too surprising to see some hiking venues closed.
Here are a couple of examples:
* The Navajo Nation has closed all of their tribal parks:
https://navajonationparks.org/public-notice/
* The road up to Kitt Peak is closed to the public...here is a pic that a friend took when he attempted to ride his bicycle up to the top: [ broken link removed ]
It would seem like hiking, especially in remote areas, would be one of the safer things that you can do...but with the frenzy that is going on, I imagine that there will be more closures in the coming days

I potted up some experimental plants and sowed some seeds at work today. Good times.

I've been going through a lot of papers and realized that after 10 years, somehow I never followed up to make sure my Ex was removed as the Beneficiary on my Pension and Retirement Accounts. Oops, started taking care of that today. He had already taken half of the Retirement Account 10 years ago, so he certainly is not going to get the rest. And as far as my Pension goes, he's not going to get another dime out of me, even if I'm dead. I don't know how I missed that for so long. Take this down time and update your Records folks!

@The_Eagle
You're not the guy I'd expect to hear ask anything about "how many years?" ;)

Well, since one of the major labs is going to allow you to get antibody testing without an MD script ( 65bucks) starting in May I think I will do that. Whatever it says I think I will then retest in 6-8 weeks as long as tests are available for it. I feel fine, but would like to eventually get rid of looking like a bandit every time I go out.
Lost two extended family members to the virus, but both were in long term facilities and were not in good health, so the virus put them over it seems. That makes me wonder how all this data is counted, what the criteria is. I get the virus, but I have a bad heart, have a heart attack, that might have occurred whether I had covid or not. I have a distinct feeling that how many ever years later it will never be known the full impact of this situation.
I'm not washing either car, but the Jeep needs an oil change and a radiator flush ( been running a little hot up long hills lately). Next week.

Might being the operative word there. I like to use this analogy. I have Diabetes and a drunk driver plows into me with his car. My injuries are life threatening and because I have Diabetes I simply cannot recover. So, who killed me? The Drunk Driver or the Diabetes? If the Drunk Driver hadn't hit me, I could have lived quite a bit longer. You may not have had a Heart Attack for another 10 years. The Virus may have made your Heart Condition much worse. Just thoughts on what to consider as a cause of death in times like these. Completely healthy people are dying. There's a guy that was the model of health, but just had a leg amputated due to blood clots. No "preexisting condition" there.

I was able to get the antibody test already this week through my regular local clinic - lab test, not rapid test - waiting on results and bill ... not that results will change my behavior either way, but very curious to know if my illness a few weeks ago was IT - and I couldn't get tested when I was actually sick.
Sorry for the loss of your family members.

If you read the CDC guidelines, the expectation by the CDC is that if co-morbidities are involved and a person tests positive for COVID-19, then COVID-19 should be listed as the cause of death. I saw a couple of days ago where someone who tested positive for COVID-19 died of an illegal drug overdose, and COVID-19 was listed as the cause of death. This leads me to believe that COVID-19 deaths may be overstated by some unknown amount.

Doubtful. Considering some states (and countries) have come under fire for only reporting hospital deaths and not deaths in assisted living facilities and prisons, its more likely the numbers are under reported.

More to your point, this is a good article:

Sadly, we don't have data. We don't know either the numerator nor the denominator, and despite this there has been a woefully inadequate ability to test (either for the active infection or the antibodies). It's actually a bit mind-boggling how a country as wealthy and advanced as the one we live in can be so disorganized, unprepared--and more importantly--so far unable to strategize and pivot to fix this obvious and glaring data gathering shortfall.

Hmmm... d'ya think it just
may have something to do with the present administration?
Not even a bit mind-boggling to me.

This isn't even just something that can be blamed on one single administration, though there are clear failures and plenty has happened in the last 3 years to exacerbate this. No, this is a cultural phenomenon. Just look at this thread! If the same greedy self centered culture that occupies the USA today, existed in 1939, not only would we have ceded Hawaii to Japan, a huge part of the country would be debating whether or not Hitler was really a threat to the US.
Our society is bizarre and almost unrecognizable from what existed just over 20-30+ years ago. Some good, most probably not for long-term success. Whether it is part of a leftist culture war that demonizes men while promoting an acceptance campaign for all things that formerly were cultural aberrations, the growing power of corporations with non-existent person hood but all the rights, or the steady slide from facts to ideology on both side of the political isle, we are now more concerned with making reality fit an ideology than making the ideology adhere to the principles of reality.
If this is just another type of natural disaster, which it can sort of be seen to be, then one not look very far back than the last 20 years to see how poorly we have handled thing like Katrina, to how we created conditions that make flooding worse than it would have been naturally because we developed wetlands (Houston), to the cultural phenomenon that gives us an almost weekly mass shooting. Arguably, if America is Imperial, and it is, we've long since run up against our limits and are slowly going to slide backward. Our life expectancy already is! Yay! America! We're # 38! and even lower than Lebanon! And they had a civil war in the 1980s.
It is hard to pinpoint when we started down the path that got us from Kennedy's, "Ask what you can do for your country", speech to the things we have become, but the road we are on ends about as well as a narcotic addicted brittle diabetic who ODs on percocet after they took too much insulin and insisted on going to church to be in a crowded space, decrying the public order not to go as a form of First Amendment infringement, just because. It is the sort of self obsessed disease infested half alive walking corpse that we've become. No, this isn't Trump's fault. This is the fault of all Americans, because it is our culture that got us here.
