Up to 6" of snow is forecast for areas above 6500 feet by mid-morning tomorrow. With most trees still carrying their leaves, this could cause significant damage as heavy, wet snow weighs down limbs.

Hmmm...somehow I doubt we'll get that much right where I sit. But that won't be unusual as we are in a rain shadow here. My house sits at 7100 feet.

Gorgeous here this afternoon. Enjoy your snow, Arizona! It was 80, sunny, and the breeze was nothing more than refreshing. Perfect hiking weather. Tomorrow, well, the wind comes in.

Yes, Jim, happy to accommodate you, and send you our wind, postage paid! Enjoy it!

Just talked to a friend who is up hunting in the Stoneman Lake / Happy Jack area. 8" of snow on the ground from last night!

Impressive.

Still, it will melt and these early storms offer no real indication of how December to March will be. My anecdotal observations, with this sort of storm happening in 2011, suggest that it will not be a wet, snowy winter, with this sort of thing occurring. Wolf Creek opened in late October of 2011, if I recall correctly. On the other hand, 2007 had a rainy low pressure late in September, and that was a decent winter. Who knows?

That must've been a pretty localized shower! Most reports are in the 2" range (up to 5" west of Flag). The ADOT web cam at Clints Well is showing only a dusting. That's pretty close to where your friend is.

Sometimes our weather in the White Mtns. can be almost identical to Flag area, but not always. We are getting wind and rain here in Round Valley (Eagar-Springerville). However, up on Baldy, up in Greer, up in Alpine, I would suspect it's snowing, since this rain has turned fairly cold over the course of the morning.

It'll keep me indoors to pack stuff in the house, at least.

You guy have had sun and nice temps, it has been overcast and chilly over here. Went to Cloudcroft yesterday and it was cold, gray, and windy. No more apples in High Rolls, which is ironic as the Apple Festival is this weekend. I guess they'll bring them from elsewhere? Some broken clouds and sun today, and hopefully it won't be too chilly at Sunspot. I don't remember it being November like in mid-October when I moved here a year ago, at the end of this week. In fact, it was 80 and lovely for about 2 solid weeks before it got chilly.

What gives?

32 here at the Fat Cottonwood, this morning. Guess summer is over. I'm sure you are all deeply concerned over this.

Ahem, back to WEATHER. I am very pleased at the current outlook for the White Mountains. I'm still packing up my house, and this dry, relatively warm, weather is a big help. Looking at the NOAA forecast, it is doubly pleasing that there is to be a warming trend over the next week. I need to make hay while the sun shines, as it were.

Yeah, warm. Enjoy those mid-50s!!! Actually, after some 70s today and tomorrow, we are supposed to dip to the 60s. I am not pleased. Then again, I am at 4300' or so, and it gets very cold here in winter, for what I expected, in southern NM. I tell you, living in the SE area of CA, with the warm desert, and San Jacinto and the Sierra Nevada relatively close by, seems like a nice idea.

Since' we're back OFF the weather, I'll say that I woke to my liberal radio (NPR), taking a moment out of their non-stop Obamaworshipthon, to tell me something about some sort of a sport which has "world" game, or something, I don't know. Don't care. Something to do with base(?) ball. I was confused.

Well Jim, since the World Series is called the "fall" classic, that makes it weather related. Or at least season related, which is a common topic in this thread. ;)

And Elizabeth, there's a good reason why people visit here right about now:
