It is raining steadily but not hard, in Williams, and it's quite breezy, but not over the top. Today is the last day of this year they will pull the Grand Canyon train with the steam locomotive. (They use the steam engine about once a month or so.) I just heard the steam whistle blow, so I know they didn't think the weather was bad enough to cancel the run.

@rwstorm
If the forecast models turn out accurate ( :sl: ) you should get a bit more rain on this one. And southeast AZ might get hammered.

Yeah, right now the masses of high cold clouds are over New Mexico, and have moved north of the forecast center of precip, and then there is a much smaller area of clouds south of the border from extreme SE AZ. I hope it moves over that way, and we just end up with more normal high moisture infused monsoon storms.

These models just do not do well with these cut off from the jet stream, tropical derived lows. They aren't Gulf of Alaska Lows moving down the west coast and coming in over the southern California counties, or northwest Mexico states and tracking over AZ, the models are continually not reliable with the storms, I don't know why the NWS clings to forecasting anything but uncertainty with them.

Well for most of Arizona, Odile was a total dud. Certainly for the overhyped population centers.

Still hoping for a couple of solid localized thunderstorms today, but not really expecting it.

Extreme SE AZ and most of southern New Mexico got a decent amount of rain. Now, will the weather co-operate and be nice for my weekend trip?

You must be under the assumption that Jim actually trusts the weather forecast...

You must be under the impression that Jim would consider any weather condition to be cooperating with him.

Dry and sunny, that is co-operating.

Remember last time that I went up there, the NWS was calling for a break and lower dew points. It never materialized. I hope, that 3 to 4 days out, this cut off low that is forecast to move north of the area generates little more than happy clouds and mild breezes, before 5 PM.

Until it's dry and sunny. And then you want rain, snow, fog, virga, a sky full of unicorns, or something else that isn't what is happening. :)

Well, not exactly. The sun is out!! After three oppressively humid and gloomy days, the clouds are finally moving east and the sun, though low, is finally out. There are still low clouds draped over Kimball, but the sun is out over here! :y:

What we need is a monster El Nino to wallop the southwestern quarter of the country with a deluge of precipitation. I don't care if the sun disappears until April if it means we get a ton of rain and snow out west.
It looks like an El Nino is indeed on the way, but no one knows how powerful it's going to be.

I'm perfectly great with that, except that I would like it to hold off until the second or third week in October. It seems like every year when the aspens are turning, there's a big cold front that blows in and pre-maturely ends the high altitude fall colors.
