I have never but am wondering if for over nighters and those that build fires.. do you carry one.


like I said I have never. I have never built a fire in arizona tho I reserve the right to if I choose:) So I have never carried an ax. if I were to, what should I get or to save the weight should I just look for wood that is easly handled ?

The OP was in 2003, so by now he probably carries the Popeil Pocket Chain Saw.

I grew up swingin an ax. Don't really see a use for it or a hatchet in my pack. Hell, my pack weighes enough with the six pack shoved in the bottom.

Yeah, any time you are looking to pack a small bear, get a small bear canister, or mini-keg.

I could also use it as a seat while I sit by the camp fire eating my taco and cleaning my gun... naked!

Don't forget to check the weather! ;)
