Willow Valley-West Clear Creek Thru Hike

After doing the Royal Arch Route i feel like i should be doing much bigger, better trips and hikes to satisfy my hunger for adventure. That being said i have always wanted to do a west clear creek thru hike. i found a good write up on herehttp://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=938 and i want to bang this out this summer, sometime in june i think would be best. Only problem is im not even going to think about doing this alone. Its at least a 6-7 day trip averaging about 6-8 miles per day and requires some serious canyon/outdoor know-how to accomplish. Not to mention those 6-8 miles per day will be some of the hardest fought miles you can conjure up. If anyone is also willing to subject themselves to this trip sometime in mid-late june let me know and we can start to plan the specifics out. Serious takers only, i would strongly recommend reading the write up from the link i posted as well as the epic triplog attached to it. Hopefully we can get maybe 2-4 people who want to join and explore some of the most remote and rugged country in Arizona.

hahah you seemed pretty content with dwelling upon the ground.. If its a make or break for Joe, and we need a 3rd member, then ill make it happen.. Plus, its a good excuse to buy a hennessy or a clark :y:

"Content", while not entirely accurate, will suffice. I'm resolved to be going. Besides, I'm tough, old(ish) and stubborn! We don't need no stinkin' hammock...

Never tell Joe you are "oldish" eventhough you were in knidergarden when he was born.....he'll try to spin it like your as old as dirt. :D Using phrases like... back when you were born during the depression or you must remember WW2 or How was it gathering around the radio. :)

I may join in on the backend of this hike when I get back from my Ninja trip.

Yeah, rl... Thought I was going to cough up a lung when dabreeze called me a young buck! He obviously doesn't realize I've got fillings older than a lot of people on this site... Joe is at least old enough to realize that Old age and treachery will overcome youth and skill... :D

@berkforbes
Is that where you'll be about late july 1 or sometime july 2?

Um likely a bit past that point, actually..If were on pace, the night of july 2nd we should be camping at the turnaround spot from bullpen, which is about 7.5 miles from bullpen.

ah that blows

I was under the impression with a June 25th start and 6-7 days in the original post meant finishing on the 1st. Sounds like you're more thinking of a 9 day trip ending on the 3rd.

I have a commitment for the 4th of July and will definitely need to be home by the 3rd. Also believe I'd go blind at that pace.

I've heard something else makes you go blind... :o

We'll actually be starting out on the 26th (Sat). Still, we should be out by the following Saturday at the latest...

If im going to burn a whole week of PTO (and not leave the country) then im going to get all the usage i can out of it, no need to rush thru such a beautiful place either.. If you can commit then i have no problems (as long as Paul doesnt either) with an exit date of friday the 2nd, we may have to cut a little off the top, maybe drop in from willow crossing..

The latent cruel streak in me couldn't resist the temptation to dash berkforbes' hopes on the sharp rocks of misery...

That sounds better than the truth (wife had prior plans I wasn't aware of...) :( I'm possibly more disappointed about not going than Berk. For the foreseeable future, I'm going to stay away from abrupt drops, sharp objects, etc. I really was looking forward to this trip...

Are YOU going to dog him too!?

That sucks you're not going! I'm almost solod this same trip last summer, but I found I was fairly beat up from just two days straight of WCC hiking and was afraid what a weeks worth would feel like... :sweat:

That looks like a sweet trip--I'm interested if anyone is still working on organizing this hike. This is my first time posting here, I look forward to joining a trip soon. Thanks for your help!

Please note that the original leader cancelled the trip, if you want to lead a trip you may want to start a new thread. As far as I know we could never come into agreement regarding # of days or the dates.

@nonot

Thanks for the response. If you or anyone is interested in the 6 days/original date, let me know--I'd be interested!
