I'm going to do this hike mostly as described in tonyp's book from the Pine TH up past Hardscrabble Road. On my Tonto NF map, it looks like there's another section of trail past that about a mile or so long that takes you up to the rim. Mileage looks like it will probably be in the 11-12 range, that last section of trail looks to be the most interesting section of the hike. I think this might also be a section of the AZT. Leaving Mesa at 5:30am.

Sounds like we have a small army going! I'm lookin' forward to meeting some of the HAZ crew for the first time. The original plan was that I was gonna meet Stiller at his place. Let me know if that changes since the numbers are higher. I might not have any internet access on Saturday so lets either figure it out before this evening or give me a call on Saturday (Stiller has my number). If I don't here anything, I'll assume to go with the original plan.

I'm nursing a bad knee, waiting for an MRI. Might try a short hike this weekend to see how it goes.

@Tough_Boots

So far it looks like you come over to my house and we proceed from there to the Pine TH and meet Joe, Bruce and Jim, who should be arranging when and where they'll meet before they head up in a 2nd vehicle. Let me know you guys if something on your end changes, otherwise I'll assume we meet you 3 there.

If Groth commits , then he'll probably also meet at my house. :wrt:

It all started on a hike with a guy named Joe.... I'm thinking of coming along and hiking as much as feels comfortable. I am losing patience with the knee either healing or not. Stiller's new tattoo looks kinda scary though. Are you sure he hasn't been hanging out in the Superstitions? :scared:

If I have to ride alone all the way to Pine with Stiller rocking those cat eyes-- I'm gonna be too much of a mess to hike. Come on, Groth!

I hope you don't mind thrash metal music. BTW Joe & Bruce, I you two don't mind it either. Tomorrow is Sepultura Sunday.

I hope you're in town long enough to see Dave Mustaine at my bookstore on 8/27!

Nothing gets the day started like Refuse/Resist.
While Roots Bloody Roots and Territory kick pretty hard, the classic Arise is a must listen!!!

That avatar isn't working out like I had hoped. I might have to do a Google search and go with Steeler/Terminator themed illustration.

Thinking about rocking with some Clutch on the way up. Haven't blasted Pure Rock Fury in a while.

How about just a simple Roethlisberger mug shot from Georgia!
