This isn't really political in nature but since it fits in this forum better than anywhere, here it is! I ran across it and thought ya'll would enjoy it:

Sarah Palin Attempts to Summit Non-existent Alaskan Peak

Alaska's former governor and VP candidate sparks Twitter flame war over trumped-up adventure on Denali
See that Tweet above? That's Republican Party sweetheart Sarah Palin letting the world know about her plans to climb the Sweettooth, a spur of Denali, with her husband Todd and 16-year-old daughter Willow. The ambitious adventure is part of her planned Discovery Channel series, Sarah Palin's Alaska. Impressive, no?

There's only one problem: "Sweettooth" doesn't exist on Denali. She might mean "Sugartooth," but even then, climbers who know the area are scratching their heads. "Sugartooth" is a multi-day, highly technical climb on sheer rock; despite Palin's ability to scale the ranks of Republican leadership, it's unlikely she's got the skills to send a "5.10b/c with short sections of A2, 16 pitches," according to Alpinist.com.

The Alaskan outdoor blogosphere is understandably taking Palin to task for 1) claiming to be an Alaskan mountain woman without even knowing the names of the places she's going, and 2) exploiting their state in a selfish bid for spotlight. Some speculate she'll fly in to the Ruth Glacier, take photos and go home. "Sweettooth = name of ridge you got wrong while trying to sound like a mountain woman," went one criticism.

But who are we to judge? Check out the following footage from ace climbers Zack Smith and Renan Ozturk, who won a McNeill-Nott Award for the third ascent for the "Sugar Tooth" (scroll to 2:32):

Had you all run into each other out on the trail in dire circumstances you all would have likely worked together to save each others lives. Forums have an interesting way of ruining ones values. Luckily nobody died yesterday

I could reposts the 17 deleted posts. We could form a jury and hang all offenders. Or we could move on...

Since a power that be did not like what I did, I say put them back, all of them. It is really the only way to correct the situation. Though I am not sure it was 17 posts.

I think we usually have a civil discourse on here, even given the volatility of some of the subject matter.

That's what sets this place apart from so many others. I like it that way.

One of the things I noticed right away about this forum was that it had a political section.
Some forums I belong to will whack your peepee or ban you for posting a political thread.

Speaking of unintended consequences....it all started with this:
<<New Prove-You're-A-Citizen law

Postby Jim Lyding ยป Tue Apr 20, 2010 12:39 pm
When Governor Brewer signs this into law, can anyone see some unintended consequences? For those who don't know, this law will allow law enforcement officials to require anyone they come into contact with to prove that they are legally allowed to be in this country whether as a citizen or guest. For the record a valid driver's license is NOT considered proof-of-citizenship. Does this mean that those of us who appear as if we might be foreign have to carry around our birth certificates?
I'm not that worried about myself because I'm a 6'4" white dude, but then I remember reading about 80-year-old nuns being strip-searched by airport security.
As for hiking, I always carry my wallet with me because I'd rather risk losing it on the trail than having it stolen out of my car. But I'm not about to carry my birth certificate around. Anyhoo, this law will probably be struck down by the courts.>>

Hooray! Random mention for me! I guess I need to start paying more attention to these political threads. Maybe I can stir something up myself and post some shizz.
