We're half way through this mess! Hopefully the monsoon dies early in the first half of September, like a good little monsoon should.

linking to my non-scientific prognostication over and over again as this winter nears. I hope I'm wrong, but history shows that when meteorologists are 99% sure of something they are wrong 4 out of 5 times. Though there's only a 10 percent chance of that.

"Unfortunately, due to shifting climate patterns, we cannot even be that sure,"
I'm cautiously optimistic, and will believe the wet winter will happen when we're a good way in to it, and it has happened. We had a bust in 2006-2007, because the El Nino died in January, then it was warm and dry, so we'll see.
I would rather have a drier last half to the monsoon, still with attractive storms with a lot of lightning, but lower humidity, and less widespread heavy rain. Then, an early end in early September and no tropical storms.

The graphs I saw online today suggest that some notable weather is inevitable. It may not be exactly what they predict, but that volume of water being that much warmer than average represents a vast amount of stored energy that isn't going to stay where it is.

It also depends a lot on what happens to many of the features that dominated or plagued west coast weather over the last few winters, like the ridge over California, and so on. For the drought it would be nice if it was very wet, though I really, really enjoyed the warm dry winter we had this last winter and then spring, too.

http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-m ... story.html Sounds like it may be a little extreme.... but then again, everything in California's somehow extreme.

I'm tired of the heat. When can we expect it to end? More specifically, when will average highs be below 100?

One year the 100s kept rolling to Oct 21st, maybe it was only the 20th.

The way this year is going, we have at least another 4-5 weeks before we see sub 100's in the PHX. Hey, at least we are not 110+ today...

Hey, it was in the 80's on my ride in to work at 6:30. If I can put the windows down comfortably, I am happy.

So we've had storms rolling through the Gulf the last couple days. A transformer was struck in the parking lot knocking out our phone and data systems pretty much every morning starts out like this.

Ahhhh ... Summer in Calgary.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... yelid.html
For most people, seeing snow falling in the middle of summer might come as a bit of a surprise.
But not for the residents of Calgary, who happily watched the white stuff falling all of yesterday and barely batted an eyelid.
'Only in Alberta, eh?'

Hmmm, not sure they all love it so much, judging by how many of my snowbird neighbors down in Needles/Bullhead area (where I winter) are from Calgary! They come down in droves and stay the exact length of time they are allowed to stay. I often wonder if there is anyone left in Alberta in winter!
