85 on Friday?!?! Oh yeah!

I've been sick since the 31st, but maybe if I feel well enough I can take advantage of that on a hike!

Both halves of this forecast came true. I walked two miles at lunch yesterday in my office clothes. I'll spend lunch today trying to clear off the driveway. It's headed for 12F tonight.

Between the two of us, it took five shoveling hours. That was some wet, heavy snow, and it's a big, long driveway.

Big ice storm today. Winds gusting to 45 mph tomorrow. Those two things don't go well together.

It's still too many days away to have any confidence in the specifics, but it's beginning to look like Joe will get another wet winter Saturday. This could be a good follow-up to the early January storms to replenish the snowpack in the high country.
I'm not sure I'd be planning on starting an AZT hike in the Huachucas next week... but that's just me!

If that was the same people that said it would be raining now a blizzard is likely.

Well, I may not have any place to plant like I did last year, but by this time I was readying for spring. I'm done with winter, bring on spring!

This is the time of year I start scheming for an AZ getaway.

Some like rain and snow, some like gray and overcast, some probably even like blowing dust and 55 MPH winds, to each their own.
Me, I found today, or at least afternoon to evening, to be a perfect Arizona late winter day. Very nice.

For several days the forecast has been trending downward with the storm track going into Mexico. But today it seems the models are pushing it back north again. Uncertainty remains, but I like the way things are starting to look. Moderate rain in the deserts, 1"-2" in the central mountains, 6"-12" of snow in the sky islands, and 12"-24" on the SF Peaks. Plus hints of unsettled weather again late next week... I like how this winter has been going so far.

SoCal finally getting in on the Winter 16-17 action!
"The afternoon commute is going to be a mess,” Hoxsie said. “Hopefully people can take a half day off. Being a Friday, I know a lot of people do that anyway. … The evening is shaping up to be nasty.”
The storm is likely the strongest to hit the region within the last six years, according to the weather service.
Apparently it's just like Arizona! Magic sky water makes people forget how to drive. Or go outside.

A friend of mine in Palos Verdes Peninsula said there were things flying through the air and she could hear the sound of breaking glass. She said it was like a hurricane there, about half an hour ago.

Just noted Blue Ridge Reservoir now has water flowing into the spillway.

Just .09 inch at my place in Tucson from this one...it was a dud down here. Not so at Organ Pipe where they got about 3 inches in last 48 hours.

It was 62F in NYC today. I spent the whole day walking around outside, and finished it off with a pizza.

Ended up with 1 1/8 inches after the last cell came through this afternoon. People were boating in the storm water retention basin.

Well the models out to 7 days shows some more potential in the 5 to 7 day time frame, for southern California and Arizona, so, perhaps there will be another decent round of higher elevation snow and low elevation rain before the month is out.
I wonder how this winter will end up for the SRP water sheds, as the Verde seems to be doing well, but the Salt is hard to tell. Lake Roosevelt is only at 57% capacity, with nearly 40 feet to go. I don't think we've had snow the way we used to, in the White Mountains, so I don't know if it will come up much, or not.

Apparently La Niña has just ended and we've entered an ENSO Neutral period. So that opens the door for more normal weather rather than the warm and dry winter that La Niña influenced so far this winter.

Here's to a moist spring!
The long-range forecast hints at El Niño conditions returning later in the year, though confidence is low at this point.
