115 at TUS today, tied for the third highest temperature on record. Tomorrow's high temp is forecast to be "only" 114 but with a 20% chance of rain. C'mon monsoon!

Tucson recorded 116 today which was one degree short of the all-time record.

Been keeping weather records at my place since 1980. Today's high of 117 was the second highest noted...only exceeded by 118 on the infamous 6-26-1990. I have also recorded 117 on two other occasions: 6-19-2016 and 7-28-1995. Oh yeah, there was that 116 just yesterday too.

Looks like phx topped out at 119, but I saw the Glendale airport notched 120

After the increase in moisture and thunderstorm activity (dry type) in the area yesterday, I didn't think we would be as hot today. Wrong. Hit 118 at my place! This ties my all time record high (also 6-26-1990). Key was storm motion. Today it was north to south, so the outflows from the earliest activity south of here did not move in to stop the temperature climb. (After looking at readings from backup thermometers, it looks like the 118.5 initially reported was some kind of questionable temperature spike. So I decided to go with 118). Regardless, this is some crazy hot spell right now!

Tucson's 115 today broke another record...first time that Tucson hit 115 degrees three days in a row since weather records began in the late 1800's.

.11 inch of rain in about a half hour late this afternoon - it's a start!

Meanwhile out on Arizona's West Coast:
Bullhead City's been in the 120's for several days, highest was 122.
Lake Havasu City made it to 120 but not higher, a couple of days ago.
Yuma, surprisingly, made it "only" to 119.

Needles, CA, across the river and my winter home the past 3 years, spiked to 125 a couple of days ago. My friends there are swimming in the river, and keep lawn chairs sitting in the river down on the beach at the RV park where I live. I miss them but I'm glad to be in Oregon. It was 76 and sunny here yesterday in Yoncalla.

This is definitely an impressive heat wave. My guess is it will end up being the worst one of the summer. I was pretty surprised with the heat in Utah, but maybe I shouldn't be.

Everyone is focused on the heat, which is no longer all that dry, btw. The current dew point at Phoenix Sky Harbor is up to 51 degrees. Maybe it will drop back down, but it is creeping up for thunderstorm season. The dew point in Tucson is 54 degrees.

Get ready for a heat wave this weekend. Portland and the Willamette Valley are going to be in the upper 90's.
It figures, since I am going to be there

Yes, I'm an hour south of Eugene, and the forecast is calling for 96 to 99 degrees for Saturday, (depending upon which one I read.) I can get some work done very early in the morning, and then go inside.

Kingman is a bit higher in elevation than the towns I mentioned, about like Tucson, so it won't be 125, at least! I never did hike with her this past winter, only the winter before last.

She went with us to Butler Wash and Cedar Mesa after Thanksgiving. The weather was perfect back then. We cooked lunch on the brink of Comb Ridge near the Procession Panel. I wish every week was like that.

The widespread showers across Arizona over the past few days seem to be unusual for this time of year due to their non-monsoonal nature.

In fact current forecast models appear to be holding the shift to a monsoonal pattern until at least the end of next week.

I personally enjoyed the 25 degree temperature drop and breezes from a cell that passed near me yesterday. The 45 degree increase in less than 2 hours while driving home was significantly less enjoyable!

Tucson’s June average temperature of 89.7 degrees, which factors in the high and low readings for all 30 days, will take the top spot in 130 years of record-keeping.

Huh. Ok. :? So I'm anticipating the arrival of the monsoon. Using the old skool dew point indicators, both PHX and TUC haven't even reached a single day at the threshold levels yet, nevermind three in a row.

Looks like we are trending pretty close to normal based on the averages though.

With the high pressure and heat wave in the forecast this week, it seems likely that it will be at least into next week before the moisture arrives in the deserts.

Maybe it's me, and because we're supposed to be back to 115 today, but does it seem extremely hot already, at 10 AM?

Yes, Liz, "we", the entire state will be 115. :) Especially Springerville.

I second that. My morning stroll about that time was a scorcher, definitely some humidity holding the heat in overnight. Saw photos of a thunderstorm down near Casa Grande last night so hopefully we can get some of that a bit farther north...
