All day yesterday I thought it was autumn, then this morning I read it started at 6:54 PM, not AM. My first hike of fall was actually my last of summer!

So, it's fall.

@Jim_H Since this is the weather thread and not the astronomy thread, certainly it should be known that it’s been fall since September 1st, right?

Some say that it has been fall since the Summer Solstice, since the days have been waning since then.

I would prefer the north pole to be tilted toward the sun year-round. People in the southern hemisphere would probably disagree.

Models call for a tropical system to move in the SW stating Sunday and through Wednesday. Could be a good rain event. Looks to be aimed more at the western part of the state. Wonder how this will impact plans? My guess: it was so dry last year after mid-August, that this will be great for a lot of places.

I have to move The Beast (my motorhome) this weekend down to the river, hopefully before the rain hits. That's all they can talk about down in Bullhead City area right now, the impending rain. They haven't seen any for a while, I guess.

In other news, my family members who dodged the big hurricane in North Carolina because they had just moved to Okinawa are now battened down in their house on the island, ready to be hit by an even bigger storm, Typhoon Trami! Life is funny!

I have Mon off and have to get a permit for the upcoming fall winter stuff in the western part of the state. Think I'll drive to Ajo to get it and hope to see some rain.

Pretty impressive totals for most of Arizona. Now, hopefully this helps the watersheds and I wonder how this will impact flowers and other desert vegetation? Too early I expect for flowers that people love, but can some stuff like ocotillo or brittlebrush leaf out?

more common
[ Ocotillo | October ]
any time it rains

less common
[ Brittlebush | October ]
probably always but I've noticed more in recent years when we have a dry spring

Towers Mountain in the Bradshaw’s at 6.57 in of rain so far today! Wow impressive. I imagine Mt. Union is somewhere up there too but their rain gauge hasn’t worked in months.

If that is true, I wonder if there is strong water flow at Wolf Creek Falls? Wolf Creek Falls is only about 30 miles from Towers Mtn.

The closest guage looks like saw mountain which has gotten 1.69 inches of rain in the last 24 hours. Falls should definitely be flowing but I’m not sure how intense.
