Tempe just got bombed with a nice shower that brought accumulating slushy snow/graupel to all the cold surfaces. Ended up forcing me to have another beer...

That's why Mrs. big_load wants to stay south of the Rim.

At 8.42" since Oct 1st, this is PHX's 4th wettest water-year-to-date. So far.

Today marks the end of an impressive 161 consecutive days below 90 degrees at PHX. The last 90 degree day was on October 28th.

So not only was it a fantastic winter as far as precipitation goes, it was also one of the best temperature-wise in recent memory too!

The record sub-90 streak is 206 days, in 1912.

The average occurrence of the first 90 degree day at PHX is March 31.

The average daily high temperature of 90 doesn’t occur until April 30.

Grand solar minimum, fewer sun spots... a mini ice age is coming and everyone without snowshoes will be moving to Arizona to hike!

Drove out SR88 to the bottom of Fish Creek Hill this afternoon. Experienced heavy rain after Tortilla Flat all the way to the bottom of Fish Creek Hill. Had the windshield wiper on high and drove with the lights on. Many rocks in the roadway but passed by them without difficulty. Parked at the bottom and waited 30 minutes for the rain to stop but it never stopped completely. Had to return with the windshield wipers on intermittent until I reached Government Wells. Fun trip and here I was worried about getting my car all dusty....Ha ha....

Much like a Monsoon type storm this afternoon in Rim Country, but I did not hear the cicadas singing last week while out on the desert

Up here in Flagstaff we've had more than an inch of rain this month. It's been raining every day since May 7th. We've had the thunderstorms, but also a few spates of steady rain. Chilly, too. Still down into the 30's every night. Good thing they do the graduation inside the Dome! The snow is once again totally capping the Peaks, and I hear that Snowbowl will remain open a bit longer than planned.

It’s May 12 and raining in many locations. I won’t complain. A few stations broke their all time rainfall records for the entire month of May with the single day of rain yesterday. Hopefully It will help keep fires at bay this spring/summer.

On May 6th, the NE side of Deem Hills burned. The next day it rained. Oh well. I hiked through the burn today. It could have been worse. Getting some rain again today.

I live in the part of Tucson that hit the rain jackpot with this most recent storm (roughly about a 5 mile radius from the airport, which had the highest amount 1.21). My two day total was .88 inch. That is the second most I have recorded in May, most was .98 inch back in 1992. I most enjoyed the lightning & thunder! :D

May 15. PHX reached 100 for only the 2nd time this year. We might get past Memorial Day before it happens again.

I'm happy.

I'm stuck in Iowa after a series of weather-related flight cancellations in Cedar Rapids, Chicago and Denver. We got pretty close to one tornado Friday night in Iowa City and saw where a couple others passed through.

@MtnBart01, we visited Kalona on Saturday for the first time in ages. I didn't see anyone I knew, though.

To finish off, more tornadoes moved into the Cedar Rapids area shortly after we finally took off on Tuesday. Later that evening, we were circling Newark airport waiting for it to reopen while another tornado took a small bite of the local high school a couple miles from our house. Mrs. big_load thinks they're following her and she's ready to see if they'll follow her to AZ.

There's a rumor that it might not rain tomorrow, which is just fine with me.
