General questions about rates and scheduling

Posted: Feb 18 2016 11:12 am

Is there an "off season" for shuttle availability when they just won't be there?
Typical rate for Utah to the Mexico start (which I am guessing would be the worst case, price-wise)?
I haven't looked at bus schedules; anyone operate in AZ besides Greyhound/Trailways?

Thanks!
Peace!

Don't know what their rates, routes or schedules are like, but we do have a few Mexican bus lines here in the state. Saw a few Mexican buses heading up to Las Vegas when I was Hwy 93 the other day.

Need a ride on March 12th

Hi everyone! My name is Second Lunch and I am going to be hiking NoBo this year. I was hoping to find someone willing to give me a ride from Tuscon down to at least Sierra Vista, if not to the Border, On March 12th. I am willing to throw down gas money if needed. If anyone could help me out I would really appreciate it. If not, if you could point me in the right direction for a cheap way to get to the border. Or if anyone is looking to share a shuttle I would appreciate it. Thanks everyone!

I think that would be crazy to do. I would look at a shuttle from the Northern end (Stateline CG) to Page (or Kanab), then Page to somewhere south, like Tucson or Sierra Vista, then from that place a shuttle to Montezuma Pass. You will want to break the trip up.

There are daily commercial shuttles between the Grand Canyon and Flagstaff, Flagstaff and Phoenix, and Phoenix and Tucson. When the north rim is open there is a shuttle between the north and south rims. That covers a huge bulk of the mileage. Getting to each end of the trail requires a bit more creativity.

But the Arizona Trail Website has information about shuttles and contacting them directly would probably get you the answers you are looking for.

I am arriving in Tucson on March 1, and am looking for transport to the southern terminus, and don't mind waiting till the third to share the cost.

Shuttle suggestions

Does anyone know how I can get from Summerhaven to the Gabe Zimmerman trailhead? We are section hiking the AZT and knocking out the Santa Catalinas in March/April but just don't know how we will logistically get from point B to point A. Any ideas?

Lyft?

Both locations seem to be in their service area. It gave me an estimate of $65.

Shuttle: Apache Junction to Superior

I'm in Apache Junction after finding no place to stay in Superior. Seeking a ride to the Superior PO and then Picket Post on Monday morning. I'm aware of Greyhound and possibly Uber but was hoping for someone a bit more trail aware.

Thanks

Shoot me a PM with times, location, etc. Just asking for some help with the gas in exchange.

Hi all,

I'm new on this message board but figured this ought to be the best place to ask for some help. A hiking buddy and myself are planning on starting the trail next week Monday/Tuesday (4-11 or 4-12), we're looking to find the least costly way to get there. We're easily able to get a ride to Tuscon, and with some luck maybe as far as Sierra Vista but after that who knows. If anyone wants to split a shuttle, offer advice, or anything else it would be most appreciated

Accessing Northern Terminus early September

Hi all,

Planning a thru-hike beginning ~September 1. Trying to determine cheapest way to access the northern trailhead. Haven't bought my ticket to fly into Arizona yet - hoping to determine which city to fly into first (including possibly St. George, Utah - waiting to hear back from Suva Shuttle on a price for shuttle out of there).

So, (1) anyone else trying to hit the northern terminus at the same time and want to carpool?, (2) any tips/advice on the topic?

FWIW, my overall plan is to have mailed my bike to Southern Utah (probably St. George), to retrieve after thru-hiking (which will involve a hitch from Southern Arizona back to Southern Utah), and a subsequent cycle to Salt Lake.

Thank you for any advice and suggestions you all might have!

Hi. When I started I flew from ANC to Page (via Phoenix) and then got a ride from Yermo 435 689-2182. He did a great job, quizzed me about my gear and plans. He also stopped for my last-minute shopping (stove fuel and water). I can only recommend him. Everything went very smoothly and reasonable in cost.

CONTACT BETTY PRICE for a ride. PO box 6135, Marble Canyon, AZ 86036 928-355-2252. I used her for the AZT and just recently to the Rainbow Bridge trailhead and she is very reliable.

The best way to get to the north terminus (State Line CG)

I will be starting a N to S thru hike about Oct. 4. (I can flex my start date a couple of days either way.) I haven't bought my ticket to Las Vegas quite yet--am wondering if anyone could give me an idea how to get to the north end of the AZT. I am a little nervous of hitchhiking from St. George, but it seems the best option for me so far. Also, has anyone left a car near State Line CG for an extended period of time?
