Union wants to close some trails because "ermagherd so warm"

Meeting is tomorrow, July 13th...

"The Phoenix fire union is asking the city’s Parks and Recreation board to consider closing several challenging Valley trails on days with an excessive heat watch.
During a public meeting on Tuesday, members of the United Phoenix Firefighters Association will request restrictions to three trailheads at Camelback Mountain and Piestewa Peak when outside temperatures reach 105 degrees."
Some of my best times on those trails were very much above 105 degrees. It's the only time the crowds thin out enough to get a good pace going.

When I was managing the rental counter at the Hiking Shack in between jobs I met most of the guys on the SAR crew at Phoenix FD. Your statement is honestly pretty true for a fair number of guys over there. One guy was so huge that a XXXL two piece wetsuit designed for very large men wouldn't fit.

Camelback is 12 miles northeast of Phoenix. And to think AOL is actually still a thing!

Well, to most of the world, AZ only has three parts: Phoenix, Tucson, and the Grand Canyon.

I thought Tuscan is in Italy? And, parts of Grand Canyon must be in Colorado, because, well, it's the Colorado River. At least, that's what some tourists I've met seem to believe. And Phenix is right on the Mexican border.

I thought I was the only one who is an insomniac. Ragging on bigload for a simple typo takes it to a whole new level a little after 4 am LOL. Of course, me ragging on you at 4:35 am takes it to another level as well.
Tourist question "if they're California Condors, what are they doing in Arizona?"
My answer: "They're on vacation to see the Grand Canyon . . . just like you."
(Satisfied smile on the face of tourist).

Maybe Phoenix FD Union could just ask their off duty police friends to stop leaving people to die on Camelback in the middle of summer with no water?

There's a lot of published research that directly addresses the various issues being raised in this discussion. For example: 'No HIking Beyond this Point"
https://scholarworks.montana.edu/xmlui/ ... sequence=1
I researched these issues in regards to the Bright Angel Trail at Grand Canyon. Same problems, same challenges for SAR. I spent several days at the trailhead observing how many people stopped and read the warning signs about going down the BA. The overwhelming majority simply walked by without a pause. I observed 1 person in several hundred who stopped, read the sign, and turned around. People just don't read instructions, be it for their new electronic gadget or for a dangerous hiking trail.
I'll dig up some other citations if someone reads the first one I posted above. LOL.

Bigload DID NOT MAKE A TYPO. Check his post again. I WASN'T RAGGING ON HIM. I get up early, as always, my entire life. I was making a mildly humorous remark about common errors out-of-state people make, same as SupesGuy was.

I bet there's a peer-reviewed meta analysis that fully explains misinterpretations of internet posts and the conflicts that occur as a result.

Some just like to kick the hornet's nest for the fun of it and watch what happens. Even at 4:30 am.

I'm in Tucson helping my ex with yardwork in the sun. A screw has Indubitably come loose, somewhere.

In NJ, most people know Tuscan as the company that supplies milk for school lunches.

I can't even get around to doing my own yardwork. If I had an ex, I think helping with theirs would be pretty far down the list.
