taking the Pumkin trail/Bull Basin Loop to the top of Kendrick, camp at the nice spot near the cabin. Following PBaenzig's GPS route we can go counter-clockwise on Pumkin trail and return via Bull Basin Trail back to the vehicles. Roughly 12 miles total.

high 70's - high 40's
*you must pack in all the water you will need, none can be found along the way
I am going to make the drive up on Friday evening to car camp at the intersection of fr's
245 and 171.
This is a 3 hr. drive from the valley. Remember, this trip will include a camp at 10,200 feet - please be prepared and/or experienced hiking at such altitude.
also, there can be a threat of lightning and foul weather (rain) during late summer months
btw, the fire tower is manned and visitors are welcome. the guy up top has been manning this tower for some 21 years. he has a load of great stories to tell, so spend some time up there!
for those who wish to meet in the e. valley for a carpool, let me know and we can arrange such things. im also leaning towards driving back to e. valley using the scenic hiway #3 (lake mary road) and then on to the Beeline hiway to stop for a late lunch at the Rimside Grille in Pine.

Well, I was planning on camping up in that area tonight anyhow and hike the Inner Basin, but this will be cool. I haven't been up to Kendrick since I did a geologic study of a debris flow up there following the Pumpkin fire. We just hiked straight up the channel during that trip. Be great to get out of this heat!!!
See ya'll up there.

Mike - thanks again for organizing this overnighter. It was a blast and good to see some old and new faces!
Manuel (Kendrick Peak Look Out Tower spotter) pointed me to some photos from the 2000 Pumpkin Fire that was responsible for our treks' "eerie"

surroundings. Here's some pics...
PS. Like the "wrap" they put on the Old Cabin near our campsite

A really fun trip. I am working to get my pictures posted up here. I really enjoyed meeting some of the HAZ folks for the first time. Still waiting to hear the Tox report from "Giardia Boy".

Thanks, Mike, for setting up such a nice hike - it was a blast!
Per some of our campfire conversations, here is the Ratsack replacement; it is called 'Foodsack' >>
http://packerlandglass.com/foodsack.html (1900 ci.- $35
delivered) (no tax).
The other newcomer is named 'Outsak' ($40+ tax for 1600 cu. in. & $45. +tax for 2100 cu. in., both are delivered prices.) re. Outsak - there were a few initial reports of failed bags in the Canyon (critter breech) but I've been told they have addressed the shortcomings in their second generation bags - time will tell.
Umbrellas >> Any umbrella will do, but having one that is light, but still durable is likely best. Remember to get one with enough coverage and a handle that is long enough. I use the 7.5 oz.(all plastic framed - think
'I do NOT want to be a lightning rod on Humphries') Golite 44" dia. coverage, but I have heard good things about the 8 oz. Euroschirm Swing Liteflex Trekking Umbrella' (39.4"dia. coverage)- The available 'silver' is SPF 50 to offer you some portable shade when necessary, in addition to its rain-management abilities. ($25 @ Campmor).

Hot off the press: the new FlexTrek 37trillion Gravitrex addition. And you thought, how could it get any better?

And don't forget the Augmenteon edition.

Sorry about being a last minute no show. I ended up having WAY too much fun at Big Lake.
