Another one of those "you asked for it, now you'll get it" deals.
Rainbow Bridge via Redbud Pass. New information added 3/26/11.
Okay, so here's the deal. 13 miles from Rainbow Lodge to Rainbow Bridge. Hit the trail on the 2nd. Spend the first day hiking to First Water, about 8 miles in. Second day we'll head down to the bridge and back to camp as a dayhike. On the 4th, we'll hike back to our trucks. We'd meet in Page early on the 2nd - details to be PMed to participants. Friday night gathering and pre-hike meet and greet recommended.
Cost: Navajo Nation hiking permit= $5/day/person. Navajo Nation camping permit = $5/person/night. Total = $25.
Early April can get very cold, and there still remains the possibility of a snowstorm, so plans might be canceled or changed depending on weather. Obviously that will be discussed as the date gets closer.

I'm interested, but I'm not going to block out my calendar or fully commit until the event gets closer, because I got burned last year.
What is the cutoff dates for getting the permits...a week before...a day?

We can get them the day of, in fact, but I'd like to shoot for a little earlier than that, in case the office isn't open early that day or whatever. I'll give a bit more information as I find out if this will be "winter" or "on-season" time for the Antelope Kiosk, which will affect where (and when) we would need to do the permit stuff.

I will be coming from Phoenix, as the date nears I would love to figure out some carpooling options with anyone else from Phoenix or possibly Flagstaff.

Being up here in Page, it will be difficult for me to coordinate any carpooling, but I imagine that lots of people will want to be involved in carpooling from points south. Up here in Page we can arrange carpool options to the trailhead as well.

I am hoping that raywing and squatpuke and I will be carpooling from here in Flag. So there might be room for one more. We can figure that out as time approaches.

Man - I'll be headed to the Royal Arch on the 5th... It would just be too tight a turn around for me (of course, if I had the time to just stay up there...sigh). I really wish I could go and experience 2 amazing arches in 1 week!

Updates from those that have gone before. First day will probably be about 8 miles to get to water, so come prepared. I plan on talking to boat people this week, since 3rd quarter is finally done.

Permits are going to be $15/person. I will be picking them up in two weeks. I'd prefer cash in hand (or account) by next week. Normally I'd float that, but $135 worth of permits is a bit much for my moving-strapped account.

Talked to some boat-owner friends. They are not optimistic all of a sudden. So tomorrow I call the tour boat desk.
