I'm ready - and I got permits. Six, to be exact - so I need five more participants to make this a "go." In the Canyon on Nov. 5, out on Nov. 8.
So here is the plan:
Thursday: Drive to the canyon and get a good night's sleep.
Friday: South Kaibab trail 7.5 miles to the Bright Angel Campground (4,800' down)
Saturday: Hang out at Bright Angel Campground, recover, or likely dayhike around the area.
Sunday: Bright Angel Trail to Indian Gardens Campground - 4.5 miles (1,400' up) - day trip out to Plateau Point for sunset
Monday: Bright Angel Trail to the rim - 4.5 miles (3,400' up)
We will return on Monday afternoon.
Anyone want to come with?

:guilty: Yes Wendy, against my better judgement, I am going to do this event using my climbing gear pack and other re-purposed objects.
This, however, is not a commitment to the dark side which you inhabit : queen : and brighten (unless I get brainwashed by the lovely and talented folks who are stuck educating me

Come to the dark side- and if you backpack with Wendy, she has the magical Mango Tango that will make you forget that you were carrying around a big pack all day

now you guys are really piling it on and obviously resistance is futile
The practicel question is how do you carry the Schnaps and still have room for food and spare undies?

"Mango Tango" without a blender? I wonder if there is a lightweight solar powered blender.

Or you could just carry a regular blender and plug it in at the Canteen. You can buy ice at the Canteen.

I suppose you could crush the ice by pounding it with a rock, but that is not the same as a nice blended Mango Tango. And you have to carry those cute little umbrella thingies or it's just not right. A Mangotini is pretty good. Had one on a Caribbean Cruise. Just make sure you use 100proof Vodka in the Canyon.

As I recall, you carried some firewater that was pretty magical...
Could have been because I drank it after sampling that horrid Toltec Drainage water...
Nah!

Yay! I'm so excited!
I just got home after three weeks in the Big Easy. This is going to be absolutely fabulous! I can't wait to see all of you, too.
Still trying to decide between Vodka and Irish Whiskey...

Given such a significant decision, I recommend the low risk approach of choosing both

Have fun guys, I dropped out only to have the Jury Duty postponed until January. I found out last weekend. Either way, I 'm headed down to Tucson to hike Wrightson. Maybe I'll backpack in a few weeks.

Have fun! There is a better than even chance I'll be day hiking at the Canyon on Friday as well. Do you have an approximate time that you'll be at the South Kaibab trailhead?

You all have a fun, safe time out there. I think it's the second to most perfect weekend to do this hike. The perfect weekend being, of course, next weekend. I've heard that both weekend have a high probability for Wendys!
