Hey fellow Hazers,
How did you do with your 2013 Hazalutions? I hope you all had a great year. I did meet a few more Hazers but would of liked to hike with more of you. We didn't find GPS Joe :( . Thanks to BobP and all who looked and prayed for him to be found. The Eagle and I are almost done with the GCT. I got to do a lot of hiking and see some cool stuff from the Supes to Deer creek-Thunder River to name a few. I even got to do some hikes with my son which has been a blast. Thanks to him and all the other Hazers that let me hike with them! We did have some tragedy in the family with Grace's stroke and a couple of death's in the family which are still hard to believe. Grace did hike a mile this week :y: .
OK lets here some of your goals for 2014. I hope for all of my family and friends to have a safe and healthy year. I hope to do a lot more hikes with my son, Grace, and lots of Hazers. I hope to do some more Grand Canyon, Supes, Mazzi, GCT hikes as well as some new areas. I do need to get down Tucson way some more!
Cheers to all of you. I hope you all have a healthy and safe year and lots and lots of great hiking adventures! Happy New Year!

Took a very leisurely stroll from 1st Water TH this afternoon to see what was left of the old 1st Water Ranch site. A little tin, broken glass, concrete block, the well pipe and the four concrete foundations stones for the little house that has been gone a very long time. No AEG but just some huffing and puffing for this old geezer with bad knees. :scared:

Maybe next year I just may do more than one trip where I actually get out of my little four wheeler rice burner Grand Vitara Suzuki and take a hike. :sl:

I got at least half of my list done, and I think that is pretty good. Got some 2015 goals set too. Need to write them down cause then I go somewhere else then forget some of them.

I started off 2014 as a fat slob eating crap all day with zero exercise. So, that kind of put a dent into my hiking statistics once I woke up and smelled the cactus blossoms.

My hiking kick began with the 2 miles I logged in May, and I hiked at least 50 miles per month since then. My internal goal was 350 miles by the end of the year, and with 2 weeks left I've reached it and have a modest shot at reaching 400. My only true goal for 2015 is to maintain that 50-mile minimum for an annual target of 600 miles.

Also, I never make it to any social events to meet any of you because life just gets so freaking busy, but I would really like to meet some HAZers eventually. Hopefully the right event will come for me sooner or later.

Back on December 30, 2013, I wrote the above for the years goals. I would say it was a 3 point plan. Did a accomplish it? With respect to the last point? Yes.

With the second point, I would say yes, but only after I forced myself to stop, and even then I still think about it. Ironically, with the not written, or perhaps written in a location I forgot to find it goal of hiking a certain AEG, I exceeded another goal of hiking in the mid-200,000s. I actually did not want to hike as much as I have, so far about 20,000' more than I originally wanted for the year. The reason was simple, I did not want to get close to 300,000' so that I felt the need to hike more and cross 300,000' for the year. However, now, I really don't care, so I will pretty much end up where ever. It seems 300,000' is not likely, but 290,000' could be, and I just don't care if I were to get to 299,999' and not go over. It's all arbitrary, anyway. Next year, I would just like to hike and not care about any level of AEG achievement. I really hope I can stop thinking about number and just enjoy a good hike.

Did I enjoy the hikes? Yes, I would say so. Some hikes, like being back on the Peaks, or some of the more intense Pusch Ridge hikes were fun, as I like that. Some, like a boring hike on a beaten to death jeep road in NM were dull and boring, which accounts in part for my lack of hiking in Spring. Others, like my one 20 miler in the Rincons, was interesting, but I quickly realized that I simply have a very low appetite for big hikes. Looking back, before last year, i very rarely hiked more than 12 miles or so, and most were under 8 to 10.

Maybe next year I should set the goal of being less long winded?

handy dandy tool some may not be aware of for checking their year on the map, click the search box without typing anything
map-search.jpg
on non-map pages it changes to recently viewed member profiles

If you do not see the above after a single click then you probably haven't typed a search term ever or have recently cleared the cache on your browser. Type any search term then clear it.

No shortage of Z hikes in the greater southwest. The x ones are more of a challenge.
