@chumley
You left Northern Colorado to go to snowbowl?

[ photoset ]

If you were at snowbowl yesterday one day after being in northern Colorado, that would be an impressive drive given the storm, now that the storm has passed I would expect far more people. Last year when I was up there a couple of days after a storm the parking situation was unbelievable. they were doing what they needed to do which was forced people to take buses from the parking at the base of the mountain off of US 180. that can work if you're only going to the resort but would not have done me any good.

40 was closed all the way from Winslow to Kingman until yesterday afternoon. I'm in Flagstaff, and had a nice time going snowshoeing on the Urban Trail.

Yes, the storm yesterday was quite impressive. It closed roads all over Arizona. But thankfully today they have opened up or soon will.

Flagstaff, Prescott, Show Low, and Winslow all ended November in the top 5 highest for rain (or liquid equivalent of snow). Payson had its wettest November ever*

(*since record-keeping began, probably about 4 years ago when folks in Payson discovered paper).

Total precipitation at my house for November was 2.32 inches. That ranks as 2nd wettest, exceeded by 2.47 inches in 2013. (start of record keeping at this location is June 1980)
For 2019, my total precipitation is presently 12.58 inches, so it has been a decent year overall. :)

Just got my new rain gutter installed but let's just say the handyman has to come back as it leaked at the seams on the downspout. I'm hoping my additional guttering will alleviate the build up of water in my porch area.

And to chime in here for my Montana peeps:
Great Falls broke their overall snow record with 119.3 inches so far in 2019 and they still have a month left in the year plus they got 55 inches just between Sept 25 to Nov 28 (Havre got 30 inches during that time frame).
The 119.3 inches broke the old record of 116.5" in 1989. Great Falls is not in the mountains but in the plains.

I departed AZ inauspiciously, arriving home after several delays to heavy snowfall on the remains of an ice storm. Getting the car all the way to the house is a job for tomorrow.

Made it, woohoo! We ended up with a foot of snow on top of half an inch of ice. The last 10 miles wouldn't have been possible without fresh snow to provide traction. The last 20 feet just needed a lot of digging and ice-bashing, since it's steep uphill.

Usually seen in the late summer afternoons the pink sunrise in Cave Creek moments ago has turned the Surrey Hills a nice shade of purple.

The models screwed the pooch on this one. At least as far as timing goes. With a whopping .04 to .08" across most of the area, even despite 3 hours of rain, the forecast totals may still be on target. But what was once supposed to be a rainy Sunday seems to have turned toward a rainy Saturday evening, a mostly nice Sunday, and perhaps another rainy Sunday night, plus lingering showers on Monday afternoon now? None of which was forecast even this morning. :oops:

Anybody know the easiest way to remove permanent marker from a hard non-porous surface?

@ALMAL
Rubbing alcohol should work, acetone if the finish won't be harmed (no paint or plastic).

Since this is the weather forum shouldn't you at least mention the barometric pressure inside the can of hair spray? :-)

It was a pretty amazing night down here. From midnight til around sunrise, there were about 4 distinct rain bands that came through, and each one featured lightning and thunder. And I am not talking the typical wintertime occasional in cloud flash with weak thunder either. There was pretty frequent lightning with plenty of cloud to ground bolts and loud thunder. Pretty awesome for this time of year. Then during the day there were several more periods of showers with even more lightning & thunder, though not as impressive as the night action. I ended up with .74 inch rain for the day. Viva the tropical moisture connection! It has been amazingly persistent this fall/early winter. :D
