What kind of vehicles do you guys all drive when your going hiking? Im thinking about investing in a 4wd high clearance Jeep or something of the sort so I could get to some places where I definitely couldnt get to with what Im driving now (73 mustang):) I saw a Jeep Grand Cherokee today for $2600 and I was thinking about checking it out. What "hiking vehicle" is easiest to drive and which gets the best gas mileage (even though I know most wouldnt be too fuel efficient.)

I still keep tabs on my old neighborhood in Toledo OH where Jeep is based. Grew up a mile or so away from the factory and the burning ambition of most of my classmates in high school was to have their old man get them a job on the assembly line. The Jeep employees have a reputation for their hard partying on lunch break and use of illegal stimulants to keep them going. Or as one old friend of mine told me, Jeep stands for "Junkies Earning Excellent Pay".

@Alston_Neal wrote "I've gotten mine up to $86,725.00" in regards to a custom order Land Rover.
Sounds like you are wanting the new "Privilège" model. It has all the features you are looking for...but they only offer it in Arctic White.

@LosDosSloFolks I hear that model is all part of Range Rover's systemic design, but really it is still an individual choice. Some people can't accept that, however.

The Honda HRV, which isn't the CR-V (Liz!). Thoughts? Clearly, better clearance than a Civic, and probably better reliabity than a Subaroo.

I feel like this one is going to be strictly limited to paved trailheads. I managed to hit a curb within the first 60 minutes, I forgot how low it sits compared to an SUV or truck.

So, I guess that means no First Water Road?

@ALMAL No. Only eBikes count for hiking now.

You can scream the name of the product at the Grand Canyon!
Hoveround!!!

Skip the hoveround and the ebikes. Take drones to the ultimate level of annoying trail disturbances ... jetpack! Spotted at 3,000 feet over LAX, you know it can help you get up Flatiron! 2020 ftw!

For the non-maintained trails in GCNP the "Rascal" mobility scooter has a much narrower track than the Hoveround and would be my first choice.

Why bother with any form of an electric vehicle, when these bad boys have been around with a proven track record for a long time.
Those mules are gonna go insane when I blast past them on the Bright Angel Trail this weekend! Yeah!!!

Yes, but the scooters have a basket
and a cup holder. The clincher is they can be recharged from a folding panel that doubles as a shadescreen for the rider. I could be convinced on your motorbike only if it were a two cycle. That sound would blend in better and be more soothing than that of a four stroke.

@AZLumberjack As entertaining as that might be, I think I’ll save First Water Rd for the 4Runner or the Tundra.

Are we sure that wasn't David Blaine practicing for his stunt today?!
My friend works at the Page airport and posted pics this morning before I had heard about it .... I was like wtf, this is a joke right?

Another plus is that the 2-cycle smell would cover up the smell of dusty mule piss

@LosDosSloFolks
Cup holders for these sort of things are miss placed. If the 2 stroke dirt bike has a cup holder, you have little reason to tell everyone you're about to do something awesome by announcing, "hold my beer".
