Broken Ankle

Well I broke my ankle 8 days ago and I am still waiting for surgery. I meet tomorrow with the surgeon to see if the swelling is down enough to do the surgery. I know they will be putting in metal plates and screws on both sides of my ankle. And I am not ready to sit and do nothing. So what I am asking is that anybody who has had this surgery how long before I can at least walk on it or even drive.

Thanks everyone for your input. I did go to the doctor today and tomorrow I will be receiving a nerve burn as the other spinals did not work. So I am not really sure whats next.

Well I am trying to get Rowdy certified as my service dog. I am just not sure how to go about it. I checked online and I can buy service dog vest and a trainers card but thats not what I what. I checked a couple of place but have got nowhere. My doctor wrote a prescription for a service dog but I cant seem to get it filled.
There is nothing anyone can do for my ankle and I may in up with having it amputated. So I really don't want to wait to last minute to get Rowdy certified.
Any ideas anybody?

I'm surprised it's harder to get your dog certified as a service dog.
Dr. John Cory is a very good foot and ankle doctor that might help. He's not perfect. He's rude at times, but did good work for me. He prescribed me Ketamine/Tramadol cream for my ankle, which helped some, but it's not a cure all and Percocet works better. He might suggest a different approach for your ankle. I don't know who your doctor is but some of these doctors are terrible and should have no business being doctors at all.
Hopefully, you don't go to any of these people:
Terrible doctors in the Phoenix area:
- Anna Natcher (meh)
- L. David Richer (lazy and self-centered: avoid at all costs)
- Adam M. Kruczay (actually twisted my ankle HARD during an exam and gave me a half-assed apology)
- Brett Roeder (misdiagnosed me stating that he was 100% sure (he was 100% wrong), then he charges me almost twice as what everyone else charges, so I refused to pay him)

@gummo
Well I just decided to order Rowdy a service dog vest online. And a few books on dog training+a medical bracelett for me hopefully it will have enough room on it for all my meds.

Well I get to see another doctor on Wednesday, but this visit is free courtesy of the company health fair. I am not really expecting anything new but its free so I will give it a shot.

Have you been to Mayo? I see them as the almost last resort.

Well I go in on Monday morning for a ankle something. Hopefully they will let me record it. I will be getting somewhere between 6 and 8 injections in different locations of my ankle. Hopefully they won't hit a bad spot as I do not want to scream in pain.
