Suggestions for areas that need a clean-up!

A few times over the last several months, I recall people mentioning how filthy a few areas are. It had occured to me at that time (but never did anything) to suggest this group clean-up thing with either a hike, barbecue or campout to follow. It appears that the idea has motivated a few to action-and you deserve credit. This is very encouraging. I am dismayed that I am going to be at drill the weekend of the Tonto Narrows clean-up, so I will be unable to attend. It is my hope that the process may be repeated at another location, at another time. Perhaps we could mobilize this group and make a significant contribution to protect that which we love so much. If someone notices an area that needs cleaning up, perhaps that trail could be listed, so that those that are unable to attend group clean ups might be able to plan to hike a trail with the idea of helping to clean it up. OR a group clean up could be scheduled.
Whatta you think? Any areas that need clean ups??

After holiday weekends?

Campout, barbeques - that sounds like a heap of fun! :D I know most areas get their heaviest use at holiday weekends. What if we tried for a group cleanup at each holiday weekend or the weekend following?

How about Fossil Creek, the lower part past the bridge. We could come away with some $ with all the aluminum cans there.

clean up suggestions

Having just helped with the Tonto Narrow's clean up, I would like to suggest a few things.

It would be a good idea to bring some type of container other than a plastic trash bag to put the broken glass and metal in that won't poke through the sack. Maybe a coffee can, plastic margarine container with lid, or anything that can be used to protect. If there's no climbing, a bucket and kids plastic shovel works well to pick up the broken beer bottles, etc. Another suggestion is to wear leather type gloves for your hands. Can't be too cautious. You may want to designate a few people for "glass only" pick up and they could handle that clean up.

I would be a willing participant as long as it is on a weekend I am not working! My boss likes me there when I am scheduled.... Can't figure it out!
