Private land owner closes access to Zion Narrows

I'm no lawyer, but I'd think eminent domain could be in play here. Which might be the plan, and thus the landowner trying to establish a high market value that will have to be paid.

There are three other segments of private land between the park boundary and the upper trailhead. I didn't pull up ownership data, so those parcels could belong to one owner or split into any number of smaller parcels.

So whatever the resolution to this dispute is, it may impact the other parcels later on.

Scott Bulloch wants you — and thousands of other hikers each year — to be able to cross his family’s land in the Zion Narrows.

Better yet, he wants the federal government to own or at least hold easements on his 880-acre parcel along Zion National Park’s eastern boundary.

He just wants fair consideration for property...

“We feel that property should belong to the public," Bulloch said, “and we would like that to happen.”
