True Confessions of HAZ

I'll go first with a doozy so others can't feel too bad.

After I moved here from flat swampy LA, I lurked around HAZ for while trying to figure out what's what here. Being not familiar at all with terms like Cairns, AEG, etc, I came across hikes that were called shuttle hikes- Stuff like, "Just take your shuttle vehicle back." All I could guess was that in Arizona, the Forest service or some private organization left cheap beater cars at certain points so hikers could get back to their starting point. I took it as literally and I guess as introvertedly as possible.

Any other SFWHAZ related confessions?

I thought at one time, you could actually follow a track of The_Eagle. But you need wings. :)

Googled what is aeg with dull results
what is aeg hiking points back to this distinguished group with a few az reference further down in results
what is aeg elevation brings up a wiki page with no mention of aeg
probably hikebot or the dev team trying to be trendsetters

shuttle hike definition lit up the boards
shuttle hike beaters has results, unfortunately none of the skatchkins variety :wrt:

I think people look at my pictures.

Also, someone out there besides me cares that I will cross 3 million feet of AEG later this year, or early in 2019, and 8,000 miles recorded, soon. Someone...

I dunno. I can ask around.

Recently I have been befuddled by "buff" and "puff." Hint: they are both articles of clothing. Still not part of my daily lexicon, but at least now I know what they are. Crusty old wrinkled-up backpackers will still say "snot rag" and "down jacket."

It was HAZ that helped me learn I had always been misspelling certain cuss words "tarzan swing" "fountain cleanser bag"

*edited*
*Also that you should always click preview before posting because the A through D words are not auto-censored.

So when did you first start hiking in AZ? The timing might explain several incidences of hikers returning to the trailhead to find their cars were missing and then finding them at another trailhead.

When I first started hiking in AZ and before I had found the HAZ website I actually believed that the trails described in AZ hiking books published 5 years earlier still existed. As a result on my first backpacking trip I spent a cold wet day in Feb 2010 wading up Deer Creek "Trail" #45 in the Mazatzals and then not being able to find the Davey Gowan "Trail" #48 to get back to my car parked on FR201.

I think my shining moment here was the unique bonding experience I had with HAZ members in regards to the feral cats of the Gilbert Riparian Preserve.

I just complain and click the "contact" button at the bottom of the page.

I used to think the HAZ Chinese kokopelli shirt translated to hikearizona until I ran into some Chinese hikers. One gentleman asked, "You want to raise taxes?" I guess that's a hike.
