So I guess the guys that work the mine may have itchier trigger fingers the next time someone drops in from peak #4 after doing a MotherLode.

Surely MVD has a searchable database which could have found a "black Toyota Tundra with a possible partial Arizona plate of GYO65" within 6 months? I'd be very surprised if there was more than a single Tundra matching that description.

Perhaps the plate is stolen

I've worked with many mine owners, mostly those in Nevada. Almost all the mines are seasonal (yes ores ripen at different times of year). During the times they are closed they will be visited by claim jumpers. Yes the west has not changed much. I've seen people post up killer pieces on Facebook and the owners of the mine go ballistic because it's theirs and nobody does anything about it. It's almost like hahaha look what I got while you were gone. It's really a strange business world.
