Santa Teresa Wilderness

I got back last night from the road trip to the Santa Teresa Wilderness. Trail 66, coming in from the south, is accessible by taking backroads east of Klondyke. On the Klondyke Road unmarked State Roads go north a few miles (4-wheel drive recommended) to the Forest Service Boundary. A quarter mile in is the Wilderness Boundary.

Trail 66 follows Cottonwood Wash and crosses into North Santa Teresa Wilderness and goes on to the base of Black Rock Mountain. It appears to be about six to seven miles one way. I hiked the first mile or so on Sunday when I got there and the trail was relatively flat while paralleling the wash.

This hike could be done in a day if one got up at five in the morning to do the three and a half hour drive to the trailhead. The round trip would probably take eight hours. However, I would do it in an overnight just because I like to take my time.

Jackson Mountain is the name of the Quad. Check out topozone.com for any topo in the U.S.
