July 4th Weekend backpack

So who's up for a backpack from friday the 4th to sunday the 6th. I don't have a location or any one to go with so lets hear it.
Whos commin' with me.
I would like to go somewhere with a constant supply of water, something along a river or creek. I don't know what kind of weather is expected that weekend but if theres any possiblility of rain that rules out canyons (my first choice, really). Any ideas? any takers?

Hey Matt. Marlee and I were thinking of getting some sort of overnighter together for either the second or third weekend of july. We were talking about something along the lines of a canyoneering trip with lots of water. I'd like to join you for the 4th but have my daughter til the 10th. Let me know either way.

If work doesn't interfere, I'm doing 5 days in Sequoia National Park out of Mineral King.

That would be great, no way I could get 5 days free though, best I can hope for is 3 maybe 4. I thought it would be neat to do something where we could see fireworks (from a distance) the first night, unfortunately I think most of the places where that would be possible are closed due to fire danger

The hike we were thinking of doing will probably be just a saturday/sunday overnighter.

Cool. We decided on a date when I talked to her a couple of nights ago but forgot! duh! I think it might be the 12th/13th during the full moon. (preferred) Although it could also be the 19th/20th. At any rate I'll call her tomorrow and get a confirmation. We haven't made up our minds on where to go yet, but we want it to be a combo of canyoneering/swimming/bouldering/scrambling/bla bla bla. you get the picture. kinda like the Narrows. If you have any ideas let me know.

Hey guys, what about the full west fork hike (I have a brand new topozome map of the full canyon)? We would love to tag along too if you'd have us. We'll be gone 4th of july but the next weekends are free. Obviosuly if there is any chance of rain West Fork is out but it's an idea.

Ok Matt heres the deal. Marlee and I and a couple of her friends are planning to go to a place called east clear creek near winslow for an overnighter on july 12th and 13th. I've never head of it and its not on the traildex, but Marlee's friend has done it and said that it is a great hike. Its suppose to be a hike/swim 6 miles in and 6 out.(a hard 6) Let me know if your interested.

East Clear Creek is awesome but I haven't found it too difficult. I spent 5 days down there once and I've been back plenty of times for anywhere from a day to 3. If I'm not mistaken I pretty much covered it all, I believe there is close to ninety miles. Where are you accessing it from? I am curious. I love that creek and if there is more I'd like to get there someday. If you do go and you enjoy fishing be sure to bring your gear. There are some big fish in there!

I'm committing to run in that 5K on the 4th. So why doesn't everyone consider the Mainstem Black River trip 3 weeks later and help me start planning. Read my group hike and let me know what you think. One possibility is going down the gobbler point trail to the bear wallow trail and back to wildcat on Saturday. But there is another ridge that we can go down at the end of the logging road east of Wildcat bridge. I've done that a couple times. Never met any of you guys but this trip is going to happen whether you can join or not.

OK, Now I read the rest of the posts here. I've done the narrows near Gisela many times but never hiked too far past the falls. We usually did that area in early to mid may. What is the elevation of the area around east clear creek? What are the temps in July? What is the preferred time of year for that area? I love the narrows on Tonto Creek but it's awful hot in the full heat of the summer. Any information would be appreciated.

Off the subject I know but where is the 5k?

Hey rjshroe, I'm not sure of the elevation but I think it may be around 5000ft. Its just south of Winslow. As for the other info, I don't know that either because I haven't been there before. I'm sort of tagging along with a small group. But she said that its in a canyon and most of the hike is actually swimming Clear Creek. Cindy C also says its a pretty cool hike. When I get back I'll write up a summary for it.

5000 feet!? I like the sounds of that. Is that the elevation at the creek? That's not bad. Sounds like there is some shade. Can't wait to read your summary. I gotta know about this place

.
The 5K is at South Mountain. Part of the ARR summer series.

OK rather than a backpack. I'm thinking of basecamping and doing dayhikes from there. I'm looking for a spot north of the rim (where the forest is still open) and where there will be water. So far the best area looks like its just southeast of clints well. If anyone is familiar with this area please let me know.
