According to the Tonto NF website, they are going to change the way that you get permits to drive in the Bulldog Canyon OHV area -- you will have to go recreation.gov to get a permit and there will now be a $6 fee.

Thanks good to know.Guess I will have to finish up the hiking I still have planned before my pass expires. If it ever stops raining before it gets blazing hot.

The press release speaks merely to OHV's - So I suppose that the boondock RV campers and/or a registered road vehicle are exempt, or?

While I some folks may understand OHV's as only referring to ATV's, UTV's and/or ATC's, it really means any and all motorized vehicles driven in the Bulldog Canyon OHV area. So yes, it does include cars, trucks, RV's, motorhomes, etc.

Thank you. If I may ask; where were you able to gather that data on the vehicle types? Seems that that would be the sort of data that should be included in the P.R..
My last 4 or 5 times out there the gates have been left open at the coupla gated spots I generally enter. I DO carry the codes, but it seems that leaving the gate open is the norm rather than the anomaly.

No gathering of data. They are simply moving their Permit System from their Office to a 3rd Party Provider. So it's going to apply to everyone, not just OHV Users. If the Gates are left open, then someone's leaving them open. I, for one probably wouldn't drive through an open gate unless I had the code, simply because if someone shuts and locks it while you're in there, you're kinda screwed. But if you want to continue to access closed/locked gates, you'll need a Permit. No one is "exempt". What I would question is if you already have a Permit, is it still going to be good until it expires, or do you need to get a new one thru the new system? What's the duration of the "new" permits?

Yes.
I received my last set of codes in January, which included February, March, April, May and June. The codes I received for those months will NOT change just because of the new system.

The duration will be the same as before, 6 months.

That's good because I got mine in January also. I doubt I will be using these much in May or June though. I have an appointment with Dome mountain and if it ever stops raining I'll be able to keep it. Not Complaining about the rain though.
