My Birds are Back!

Some good news for a change. Last year had a pair of
hooded orioles nest under a palm frond in my back yard area. Apparently they really liked it; it appears they are back, first I saw the male then the female today. Last year after they were done with the nest I was pruning the palm and saved it. Incredible basket weaving, very strong.
However my cardinal pair are on my Sh&&t list because they are picking at one of my plants and have almost decimated it. Boogers--

I occasionally see a hooded oriole on my hummingbird feeders. Congrats on having them nest in your yard!

That's Awesome! Enjoy! Not too many people have Orioles nesting in their yard! Or have Cardinals for frequent visitors.

Wish I got those kind of birds, but the Pigeons have taken over, so we've quit feeding. A Spotted Towhee was about the most exciting I've had here. I want to see Pictures!

Nice! They nest here too, and are one of my favorite breeding birds. Saw my first of season last week. They love to eat halved oranges or grape jelly, as well as hummingbird nectar - they like the sweets!
I also noticed a ton of Lucy's Warblers on my walk today - downloaded Tucson Audubon Society's nest box plans for the Lucy's, and I'm gonna build a couple and put them up around my yard.

Well life goes on and all that. Got a little peak at the nest today and two small heads poking out. Appears the male and female feed the young. Putting some of my backyard trimming on hold till they get out of there. I'll try and post some pics of the nest I took about 1-2 weeks ago now and some others. Won't bother the babies at this time.

That's pretty exciting. I don't get to see orioles very often, and I've never seen them nesting.

A third nest is under construction. Seems like too short a time after construction of nest 2 so not sure maybe eggs failed??? Could it be another nesting pair?? Very close to nest 2 so I would think unlikely. Nest one I took down.
My backyard is pretty active. I have a couple of lizards making home in some rock arrangements on my back porch, and a quail family using a large bush in the corner. The children seem about 2-3 weeks old, they were out this morning in my back yard without supervision, about 8 of them. I will see them at times in the morning early or late in the evening.

Eggs from second nest might have been stolen? You said you had babies at one time, was that nest 1 or 2? If something happens to eggs or even babies early enough on, they will try again. Snakes or other birds will steal eggs and babies.

Nest one babies seemed successful. Once they were gone nest 2 went up, and she sat on it a little so I assumed she laid her eggs. Then I saw the male and her start construction on this next nest and seem to avoid nest 2, like it did not exist. So,yeah, have no idea what happened.
