I was told they're roughly half a mile apart and burning on the northbound side of the 87 at MP 247. Not good.

I was heading home from the gun range on AZ 87 when I observed three vehicles had stopped at a small grass fire that was out. This was about eight feet wide and about thirty feet long. At the same time a Payson fire engine, water tender and a battalion chief were heading further south. A couple of minutes later I observed a forest service pickup, type 6 and a type 3 fire apparatus heading south.

Two roadside fires half a mile apart... Gee, wonder how these started?

@ShatteredArm
according to the Tonto National Forest facebook page, an ember from the first fire travelled about 100 yards and started the second fire

Interesting, that might make a cigarette the more likely culprit over chain dragging.

That must have been the place I went by yesterday on my way up 87. There were a lot of vehicles there, a lot of different fire vehicles, and I assume trucks that carried the workers there. I guess it must have been what you're talking about. It was pretty close to what had already burned. But I don't know the exact location. I went by there sometime around noon or so I guess
