"The Arizona Department of Transportation started work on Monday, July 6, to improve traffic flow at the intersection of US 180 and Historic Route 66 in Flagstaff by adding a second right-turn lane.
The project will require restrictions on US 180, known locally as Humphreys Street, south of Cherry Avenue. No left turns will be allowed for southbound traffic at Cherry and Aspen avenues as well as Historic Route 66. Northbound traffic will not be able to make left turns at Aspen Avenue.
One lane in each direction will remain open on Humphreys Street in the work zone during the project.
Drivers who want to travel east on Historic Route 66 or access hotels and other businesses in the project area can use Beaver Street between Dale Avenue and Historic Route 66.
Additionally, crews will install traffic signals, sidewalks and storm drain pipes on Humphreys Street and Aspen Avenue."

Their description is as clear as mud, but the construction is about the last 900 feet of southbound Humphrey's (SR180) as it 'T's' into 66. Now.. if they could only address the turning lane from E/B 66 onto northbound Humphrey St/SR180, then they/we would have a winner.

Southbound 180 traffic backed up at the 66 light causes congestion in the adjacent neighborhood and downtown streets.
Eastbound/Northbound traffic at that same intersection only causes congestion on the already messy main thoroughfare, which they probably care much less about.

Too bad there isn't a US 180 Flagstaff by-pass that allows drivers to just avoid Flagstaff all together. Exit from I-40 out near Bellemont, and head north through forest land on a divided highway that terminates on 180 around Snowbowl Rd. No exits on the by-pass between 40 and 180's current roadway, just a quick way through.

While we're rebuilding the Flagstaff road system, can I request a new high-speed interchange directly from I-40 to the 89 east of town? Preferably with an underground tunnel that bypassess the entire Flagstaff Mall area and reemerges somewhere north of Doney Park.

Hey, I'm for any plan that removes the city of Flagstaff from the path of where ever I want to go!
