A Utah hiker/trail runner was stalked for over 6 minutes on a trail this week. The lion, identified as "Dude", made several charges while the hiker identified as Kyle Burgess utilized the new Tourettes tactic of defense along with a thrown rock to stop the attack...

This version forgot to mention that he approached the cubs to capture good photographs. I believe by definition that makes the mother "defensive" rather than "aggressive" -- a term that should be reserved for the photographer.

Unrelated, a similar thing happened to me over the weekend.

Stalking is completely the wrong term for this. As Chums point out, the story begins with the hiker approaching the lioness's cubs and then the lioness slowly chasing away the hiker with bluff charges over the next few minutes.
The lesson is: for any animals, leave them alone and maintain a healthy distance from them. Snakes, bears, mountain lions, and especially babies with the mom nearby.

I agree completely. I watched this several times a couple days ago and those are obviously bluff charges. If that cat meant business, it would have taken an approach bound and a big finishing bound and that guy would have been history.

That's too funny. Someone didn't waste any time putting that out. Re: the original...I didn't know he had gone near any offspring. Explains why he kept saying "Dude, go back to your babies". May have happened in Utah, but it's a safe bet he was from California. No offense to our California members.
