A friend of our owns a wiener dog, Rosie. Our friend was asking today how to carry Rosie on a hike. Since we don't have a dog or cat, we were perplexed. :? We've done the obligatory 'google.com' search and turned up a few interesting sites that sell packs to carry the 'petpoose' but we don't have any way to know what's good and what's not. Once again, that's where the trusty HAZ members come to the rescue. What is your advice on the best way to carry a small pet? (This doesn't mean small packs for the pet to carry its own food.) Even though we aren't pet people ourselves, we are now quite curious about this arcane topic. Looking forward to reading your pearls of wisdom. :P

The Dog here,

I prefer one of those little houses with curtains that can be opened or closed depending on my mood. There are two poles underneath that four humans stationed at the end of each pole, carry the little house. Of course there must be an attendant or two who fans me and feeds me various delicacys.

Now wait just a minute here. Don't I have any say in this? Anyway there is a product that is called something like 'Pet Pouch' or something of the kind and you can in theory, carry the dog like a baby. Personally, I have never owned a dog who liked being carried. Winston is just being a little joker. Barbequed shrimp is his favorite food however. :P

Just take a whole lot of water for them and a little collapsable dish. Dogs cannot take the heat as well as humans.

Sheesh....in my next life I wanna come back as Glen's dog!

Only carrier I know of isn't designed for hiking. Can't think of the name of it right now, but it's designed for carrying a small dog on an airplane. Looks somewhat like a small gear bag you might carry to the gym. Don't know if it's still accepted by the airlines, but it used to be.

Saw a pack for small dogs at Petsmart today. Comes in three sizes for dogs from 9 to 25 pounds. Dogs is carried in front of you with X straps across your back. Have no idea about how well it works. Lady & Dew are both around 23 pounds, but I'd rather try shavin' with a weed wacker  than get either of them in somethin' like that!
